LoL League of Legends – Patch 10.16 Analysis

Mark Yetter has spoken out and the League of Legends community is listening. In his latest Twitter post, he shows a spread sheet of upcoming buffs and nerfs for Patch 10.16. We’ll go over the numbers with you and explain what to expect on August 4.

Even though Yetter notes in his post that the numbers aren’t 100% final, the directions the dev team is taking the champions can be clearly seen. And while there has been a lot of buzz about the Yasuo buffs, I’d like to put my focus on another LoL champion today: Ziggs gets love for two with patch 10.16.

The nerfs

Most of the adjustments are minimal and, like the previous patch, are aimed at the pro scene. A little less Movement Speed for Voli, a little more cooldown for Karma, less damage for Kha’zix and Syndra’s Q, or less Attack Speed for Ashe. Nothing earth-shattering or even meta-changing. You can continue to play any champion that gets generated in patch 10.16. Riot has not “dead-generated” anyone here.

The Buffs

The most obvious buffs are Skarner, Hecarim and Yasuo. The first two should provide more diversity in the jungle, that’s obvious. They weren’t top tier champions, but could be with the recent buffs. After all, there were already some adjustments for the Scorpion in Patch 10.15 to make it stronger again. The pony will certainly not let anyone escape at 100% Movement Speed due to its E.

And Yasuo? Yes, Yasuo also gets a buff. His magic resistance is slightly increased and his AD multiplier on the Ulti is raised from 150 to 175%. Everyone knows the stories and memes of the samurai on their own team going 0-6-0 and flaming the jungler. However, once he shows up on the enemy team, he completely dominates the game. But is he really that strong and a burden for the meta, should he be buffed now?

I say no and op.gg’s stats show the same. He has a measly 48% win rate and in the late game his potential as a carry drops to the deepest depths of the chasm. The small buff to MR is supposed to make him slightly better against the strong AP Carries like Syndra and his Ulti does, to be honest, only slightly more damage than before…. that was all.

Ziggs is the MVP

Now we come to the real winner of Patch 10.16 – Ziggs. His passive is buffed. He now has 50% of his AP as scaling from the start and deals a whopping 250% damage to towers. If we look at the complete meta and also the meta gameplay, it’s fair to say that Ziggs gets the most love from Riot! Why?

Ziggs isn’t just tied to the mid lane. We saw him as the MVP with the highest win rate on Bot Lane not too long ago. Not only does his passive make load-hitting and trading on the two lanes even easier now, he can literally push the tower into the ground after a successful gank, or fight on the lane.

League of Legends is evolving and so are the players. In early and mid-game, the Herald is an increasingly important target. When Ziggs and his Jungler work together, a gold advantage can be built up so quickly by destroying Tower plates after a gank like with no other champion. With this gold, the snowballing can begin!

So if you find Ziggs in your lane after August 4th, watch out for ganks and don’t leave him alone for too long!
