Frost Avalanche is a cosmetic item for Crystal Maiden from Dota 2 that can be worn on the ‘Back’ position. It appeared with the 2015 New Bloom update and was previously hinted at in ‘The Coming of the Year Beast’ and ‘The New Neighbors’.
Function
Like any Arcana item, Frost Avalanche has a variety of visual effects, but primarily grants a new mantle to Crystal Maiden. In addition to customized animations for attacks, movements as well as deaths and a modified model of the heroine, her hero portrait, the image in the top bar of the HUD and her icon on the mini-map are also replaced with a customized one. The icon for the Freezing Field ability is also changed, and the overall antimation of the Ultimate is a different one. With the cosmetic, Crystal Maiden will also float barefoot across the ground, leaving behind a frost effect as she moves. When she moves, she is also followed by a small wolf pup named Aurora, who retreats during fights, waits for her in the spawn in the event of Crystal Maiden’s death, and howls loudly when the Ultimate ability is used.
The Arcana item has three different styles: “Scarf and Wolf Companion,” in which Crystal Maiden wears the cloak and is accompanied by the wolf pup, “Cloak Only,” and “Scarf and Upgraded Wolf Companion,” in which Crystal receives a modified wolf pup. The last style is unlocked only after destroying 50 enemy Wards as Crystal Maiden.
Obtaining
You can buy the item in the Dota 2 store or find it in rare cases after the end of a game, thus obtaining it in the ‘Arcana’ quality. However, if you bought it until March 02, 2015, you received the cosmetic in the quality ‘Exalted’ and additionally a chat emoticon and two 2400 Year Beast skill points for the Battle of the Year Beast event.

- February 12, 2015 (New Bloom Update 2015): Frost Avalanche was added to the game.
- February 14, 2015: Ability points from the Arcana have been increased from 2400 to 4800. Anyone who has previously opened it gets another 2400.
- February 16, 2015: Fixed Crystal Maiden Arcana dog interacting incorrectly with bots.
- February 18, 2015: Fixed incorrect rendering of Crystal Maiden’s Arcana on OSX and Linux.
- March 05, 2015: Added an upgraded style for Crystal Maiden Frost Avalanche’s wolf pup (existing arcana will be updated soon).
- This is unlocked once you destroy 50 enemy Wards.
- Updated wolf pups have an alternative skin and have some new behaviors.

In the comic ‘The New Neighbors’, we learn that Crystal Maiden received the item as a “parting gift” from Winter Wyvern.
Dota 2
