The 4-2-3-1 in FIFA 21

Here you only have a single forward at your disposal, but a full three ZOMs behind the front open up a lot of possibilities, while two defensive Midfielders provide the necessary stability in defence.
The 4-2-3-1 is one of the most balanced formations in the game and is also enjoying enormous popularity with FIFA pros again, as you create many chances with this formation and are still compact at the back.
The tactics for the 4-2-3-1
To be successful with this one-forward formation, individual tactics are key. Here, too, we provide you with our settings to try out, but you should adapt them to your playing style as you wish.

With the balanced alignment, your defenders are compact and do not play too aggressively against the ball. This minimizes the risk of running into a counterattack and creating too much space for your opponent.
The offensive tactic long ball is particularly suitable if you have fast strikers in your ranks. This allows your midfielders to overcome the center of the field in the shortest possible time and release the striker (and your three ZOMs).
The instructions for the 4-2-3-1
The instructions for your players are just as important. However, in order to use the 4-2-3-1 formation effectively, you need to field the right players. Here the line-up places certain demands on your actors.
- Full-back: High speed, good passing and physique values
- Defensive Midfield: A defensive ZDM with good defense and passing stats, an offensive ZDM with decent defensive stats and good stats on offense (shooting and passing)
- Outer ZOMs: Fast wingers with a Tempo value of 90 or more are recommended here
- Medium ZOM: The classic playmaker with good pace but outstanding shooting, passing and dribbling stats
- Striker: High speed, good shooting and dribbling values (high physique is also an advantage)
EarlyGame Tip: To really use the 4-2-3-1 effectively, build your squad in a formation that relies on wingers. Here, for example, the 4-4-2 or 4-3-3-3 are recommended in all variants.
