The FIFA 20 – Season is slowly coming to an end and we are looking towards the successor with hope. The current part of the series is not necessarily the best offshoot among fans and esports players. That’s where our FIFA 21 wish list comes in: these are the changes we’re dying to see in FIFA 21!
In our FIFA 21 wish list , we outline eight changes that need to make their way into the game this year .
2. More tactics for individual play styles
In FIFA 20, players are forced to adapt the playstyle dictated by the meta . And this year it only includes fast, agile attackers who play through the center of the attack. Speed is king. Everything else is almost useless. Physically strong players like Robert Lewandowski or Harry Kane are therefore hardly ever played. You can see the Ben Yedders and Kylian Mbappés of this world in every match.
The idea for the FIFA 21 wish list : finally makes the individual tactics stronger in all game modes! In such a way that the playing style of your own team can be completely adapted to your own preferences . Some prefer to attack down the wings and cross into the middle, others follow the tiki-taka style.
3. Rework the defense!
The following scenario: Your opponent is on the attack and is just before the penalty area. So he lines up one ball roll after the previous one. A drag back followed by a fake shot and another drag back and your opponent is through. Games in FIFA 20 usually end 4:3, 5:4 or 7:6 and often run the same way.
It’s all well and good that EA Sports has made the defense more difficult, but it’s the same skill moves that almost always overturn the defense. Top dribblers like Neymar or Messi can turn almost on the spot, the usually less agile central defenders are at a disadvantage.
That urgently needs to change in FIFA 21. The defense deserves a complete overhaul.
4. Better servers
Especially FUT players of the Weekend League know the problem. The EA servers in online matches are… let’s say “inconsistent”. You don’t really need to play between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., otherwise the lag will determine the game. Network code updates? none.
Instead, a complete OP tactic ( superiority on ball possession side ) is introduced, which is then tried to get under control with two further updates . With rather moderate success.
5. More customizations
What actually speaks against giving the FIFA Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 21 more customization? We think of customizable and self-designed kits, own stadiums, own goal celebrations, own logos . That should be doable, right?
It’s amazing when you’re forced to resort to prepackaged extras in a mode that revolves around building your OWN crew . We want to create our own kits so we don’t run into the AS Roma away kit or the fancy red Liverpool FC kit every other game .
And while we’re at it, let’s just build our own stadium in an editor . It doesn’t even have to be extensive. A few options for grandstands, roof, lawn pattern and some colors would be enough. That would give FUT 21 an extra appeal.
6. VAR and the ability to challenge referee decisions
FIFA wants to realistically depict real football , right? So why is there still no VAR (Video Assistant Referee) in the game and the ability to contest decisions? Sure, the video evidence is not without controversy, would give the FIFA 21 gameplay an additional touch.
7. Women in FUT mode
Women’s national teams found their way into the game with FIFA 16 , but there haven’t been any real innovations since then. It’s about time that the ladies made their way into FUT mode too! What speaks against it?
After all, there are fake players, icons from a bygone era that nobody knows anymore and players from leagues that nobody plays anyway. Who gets footballers with an overall rating of 48 into the team?
We’d rather see women in FUT mode instead . Also in mixed teams , because FIFA Ultimate Team is all about the ultimate dream team. We would definitely prefer Megan Rapinoe or our number 1 Almuth Schult to Yufeng Zhang or Tobias Klysner.
8. More love for the other modes
Sure, FUT is the cash cow for EA Sports and fills the company’s pockets. So it’s no wonder that the most popular game mode in FIFA 20 got the most attention from developers. But FIFA has so much more to offer.
High on our FIFA 21 wish list: love for the other modes! There is still so much room for improvement in career mode or the unique Pro Clubs mode , but they are overshadowed by FUT. For example, how about substitutes, new customization options, and so on?
FIFA 22 – FUTs
What could be cooler than just relaxed gaming and doing some sofa sports on the side? In FIFA 22, the player is on the move fast, but without getting sore muscles. With the Ultimate Team Event cards, the collecting instinct is now also satisfied. However, the FUT Heroes keep creeping into my mind, so here are the best Ultimate Team Event cards that are definitely worth adding to your collection.

Admittedly, the FUT heroes will cost quite a bit of coin, but it turns out that EA has once again brought some top-class players into the game when it comes to selection. As a collector and hunter, it’s an added attraction for FIFA gamers to now include their own favorite heroes in the portfolio and benefit from their individual skills. Both in the game and in team building, the FUTs will revolutionize the game once again.
EA SPORTS FC: FIFA GAME SERIES TO BE CONTINUED UNDER NEW NAME
Of course, the soccer simulation game series will not be discontinued completely. After FIFA 23, EA will relaunch the game under the name EA Sports FC and market it independently. Old FIFA hares should now become quite an ear, after all, the EA Sports Football Club used to be a part of the actual game for years. A lot of playing was rewarded, points could be collected and items, boosts or balls for the individual game modes could be unlocked.
In this context, there could also be a complete revolution of the classic game. There is a heated discussion in the FIFA community about whether the game, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2023, will be free-to-play. This option is said to be on the table for the game makers from EA, because: It seems that EA earns most of its money with the purchases of FIFA Points in the game mode Ultimate Team and not with the sale of the game itself.
