The Italian top division is bursting with talent, according to our FIFA expert Ryan – and it also makes for a perfect start in the latest version of FIFA Ultimate Team.
Serie A lost two of the most renowned strikers in young soccer history over the summer. However, the return of Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo to England also brings good news to FIFA’s Serie A: It opens up interesting hybrid opportunities for bargain hunters for the Ultimate Team launch in FIFA 22.
” Luis Muriel of Atalanta is one of the must-have players of Serie A “
“Luis Muriel of Atalanta is one of the must-have players in Serie A,” says Ryan Pessoa. “His speed, dribbling, 4-star skills and weak foot will make him a force up front.”
Gianluigi Donnarumma has also left the Italian league, but it wouldn’t do much to diminish the chemistry of having him guarding the goal behind center backs Danilo D’Ambrosio and Alessio Romagnoli. AC Milan’s new keeper, Frenchman Mike Maignan also fits the bill as a Ligue 1 hybrid. Nonetheless, let’s now look at the starting options in Serie A.

Ante Rebić (LM, 82) – AC Milan, Croatia
In the Champions League, AC Milan impressed in their strong match against Liverpool this – Season . The match at Anfield was narrowly lost, but many AC Milan players delivered a strong performance – including 27-year-old Ante Rebić. He is usually found on the left side of the attack, but the Croatian midfielder is equally comfortable centrally. With above-average shooting ability and low demand for an early card in the low 80s, you could sign a great offensive player at a bargain price.
Fikayo Tomori (IV, 79) – AC Milan, England.
Thanks to English heritage, Tomori won’t be a bargain, but for that you won’t need to replace him in the early weeks. Excessively quick, tall and strong for an early card in the game and the high likelihood of him getting a Team of the Week card (EA has a soft spot in this regard with English center-backs) make him profitable in any event.
Franck Kessié (ZDM, 84) – AC Milan, Ivory Coast
Even though Milan’s midfield power will change leagues in the near future, you have a compact and disciplined center for some time with him. The prospect of special cards let you sign him cheaper in the future.
Hirving Lozano (RF, 81) – Napoli, Mexico.
Lozano is a very efficient winger in the early stages of FUT. Thanks to extreme speed and respectable stats in the rest of the areas, your right side is well equipped across the board. Even a route through the middle shouldn’t be a problem for Lozano.
Luis Muriel (ST, 82) – Atalanta, Colombia

The Serie A proven striker is interesting for those who want to pass the ball quickly past the center backs up front. Along with Lozano and Rebić, you’ll be racking up easy wins for a long time to come.
Federico Chiesa (RF, 83) – Juventus, Italy.
After playing and winning Euro 2020 extremely strongly, we would have liked to see a stronger upgrade for Chiesa’s card. However, he remains an asset to any team.
Manuel Locatelli (ZM, 82) – Juventus, Italy.
Juve’s new addition is perfect for an early-game midfield. Alongside Kessié, he will reliably control the game until you find a stronger alternative.
Mike Maignan (TH, 84) – AC Milan, France
Mike ‘My Nan’ Maignan will most likely become the default keeper for any player short of coins for Samir Handanović. With Donnarumma’s replacement in goal, you’ll still stop the worst of it.
Nicolo Barella (ZM, 84) – Inter Milan, Italy.
Another Euro 2020 winner who can control the heart of the midfield alongside Locatelli or Kessié. It’s best to use him in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation.
Rafael Leão (LF, 77) – AC Milan, Portugal
Leão should not be underestimated despite his non-rare gold card. Sufficient speed and dribbling skills are easily enough for the early stages. His passing is unfortunately not going to impress anyone much, but if you put him in the center, you have a cheap alternative to more expensive strikers.
Roger Ibañez (IV, 76) – Roma, Brazil
At the beginning of the FIFA cycle, everyone wants to invest in fast (80+) center backs. This makes Ibañez a bit more expensive than other contenders, but could make him cheaper in the future compared to popular cards like Manolas or Tomori.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (ST, 84) – AC Milan, Sweden
Even though FIFA Ultimate Team is mostly about young talent, Sweden’s most popular export will always remain a footballing exception, and in a good way. At 39, Ibrahimovic won’t run down a FIFA 22 defense, but at 87 in shooting ability, great passing, dribbling, and considerable size, he’s just about ideal as a second striker alongside, say, Muriel.
