Extra tip: Be variable in your choice of formations

It is also important to know and use different formations. Of course you can have a favorite formation that you play in most matches. However, for different scenarios you will also need other formations – here are two examples:

1. you don’t find any means with the strong defense of the opponent.

If you despair of the opponent’s defense, a formation change can work wonders. By changing the alignment and shifting the player positions, you can create moments of surprise and overwhelm the opponent. For example, you could switch from a centrally aligned formation to one that allows you to play a lot on the outside.

2. you are in a FIFA crisis

Every one of us is in a FIFA crisis. When things are not going well, we have to intervene and try to change something. A change of formation can be a way to end the crisis and get back on track. Just give it a try. On a mental level alone, a formation change can work wonders. The reason: It feels like a new beginning when we play with a new formation and we leave the many negative experiences from the past days behind us at best.
