The voting for the Team of the Year in FIFA 22 is over and… well, we are a little bit surprised about some players. Just by the way: a total of 5! Paris Saint-Germain players made it to the world eleven…. Isn’t that a bit much for last – Season ?
Did EA influence the voting and get their cover star in the team or did the fans really vote that way? Egaaaal, that’s not what today is about. Rather about which players we think deserved to be in the TOTY.
These players should have been in the FIFA 22 TOTY!
Thomas Müller – FC Bayern Munich (87 OVR)
Clearly one of the most-underrated players of the last decade. Cheeky enough that he’s not on the radar of many journalists, coaches, players and fans in the Ballon d’Or voting or #TheBest Awards… and in FIFA 22, unfortunately, it’s no different.
Realtalk, if he played in the Premier League or had the technique of a Ronaldinho, he would have been safe in the Team of the Year more times. In the 20/21 – Season he has already delivered and meanwhile he has already collected 16 assists after 19 Bundesliga games. Who is this Kevin De Bruyne compared to Thomas Müller last year?
Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool FC (87 OVR)
Prime Alexander-Arnold > Prime Hakimi anyday of the week, come @ me! Of course you can argue that Hakimi played the better second half at Inter, but this – Season Trent is definitely the best RV in the world again.
Since we have a bias against PSG anyway and 5 players from one club – reminds us of FIFA 13 with 5x Barca and 5x Real Madrid – is definitely too much, we would have liked to see Trent in the FIFA 22 TOTY.
Karim Benzema – Real Madrid (89 OVR)
We can still remember that a few years ago he was a bit ridiculed. Then Cristiano Ronaldo went to Juve and actually since then he has Real Madrid in his backpack.
There is no question that he is one of the top 3 players in the world this – Season . But also his performance data of the 20/21 – Season is worth seeing. That’s why we would have seen him ahead of Mbappé in the Team of the Year. Even if the Paris striker fits better into the meta, of course.
PS: Mbappé is young enough to be in the TOTY in FIFA 27 as well. Benzema maybe not anymore…
Why aren’t Ronaldo & Salah in the TOTY?
Who deserves it more, Ronaldo or Salah? If your answer is Mohamed Salah, you’re probably right in the eyes of many fans. However, will he still get into the TOTY? Probably not. The twelfth man vote in FIFA 22 is still to come and…. honestly, this is just a popularity contest. And who is more popular than Ronaldo? That’s right, nobody.
While the TOTY’s starting eleven in FIFA 22 doesn’t quite match our expectations, we’re hyped anyway, of course. If some of the leaks with the stats are true, the upgrades look much better than in FIFA 21…

FIFA 23 WILL BE THE LAST PART OF THE GAME SERIES UNDER THIS NAME
FIFA 23 will be the last part of the game series to be released under the name of the world governing body and in collaboration with EA. For months the rumor mill was bubbling, now all this has been confirmed by the game makers EA in May 2022. The fact is that after almost 30 years of partnership between EA Sports and FIFA, the license agreement between the two parties will expire with the game FIFA 23.
