Ultimate Team remains the most popular game mode in FIFA 22. You don’t know FUT very well yet? We’ll help you get started with these tips.
In FIFA 22, the most popular game mode is once again called Ultimate Team. And not without reason: The appeal lies in being able to put together an individual team from all the players available in FIFA 22. This is extremely fun and stimulates our creativity.
However, especially for beginners, the start in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) can be complicated. The game mode offers more and more possibilities and becomes more complex. That’s why we give you on redbull.com not only numerous FIFA 22 gameplay tips, but also advice for an optimal start into the FUT – Season . With this guide you will quickly become FIFA 22 Ultimate Team experts!
1. The first steps

First of all, you have to be aware of the following: If you just want to play haphazardly, FIFA 22 Ultimate Team is not for you. FUT is much more than just playing. The game mode is for team tinkerers, tactical foxes, traders and overall FIFA enthusiasts who are intensively involved with the game. To enable you to have a strong team, you need to earn coins (virtual money). Only with a lot of coins you can later get the best players from the biggest leagues in the world into your team.
Every coin counts
You generate coins by playing a lot and trading wisely on the FUT transfer market (more on trading later). To get more coins in the first games of the FUT – Season , you could activate coin boosts in the store at the beginning until FIFA 19. Since FIFA 20 this is not possible anymore. However, boosters have not been completely eliminated. You can only earn the coin boosts, which reward you with additional 200 to 1,000 coins per match. You receive experience points (XP) for completed matches and tasks. With the XP you can level up. For each new level you reach, you will receive rewards – in the form of packs, objects or even coin boosters. This means that the more and more successful you play, the more coin boosters you can activate. Especially at the beginning, every coin counts!
Strengthen the team with loan players
The fact that you can’t afford top players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Virgil Van Dijk & Co. at first doesn’t mean that you have to do without them at the beginning. In addition to coin boosts, you can also earn loan players that temporarily strengthen your team. The number of games you can play with them is always indicated on the FUT card. To test how some of the best players play in FIFA 22 at the beginning of the – Season , loan players are ideal. They are also a great temporary reinforcement for your squad.
Fulfill tasks and goals
In your FUT menu you will see the item “Goals”. If you click on it, you will get to various tasks and goals that you can fulfill. These include mastering the basics, reaching milestones, but also completing tasks that change on a daily basis. When you complete these tasks and objectives, you’ll get different rewards – these include coins, loan players and also packs. Opening packs is the absolute highlight in FUT for many players. If you are lucky, they contain top players that you can either use for your team or sell on the transfer market for a lot of coins. Packs also contain important items, such as contract cards.
You need contract cards – but no more fitness cards!
To make sure that your players can perform at their best in every match, you had to equip them with fitness cards regularly up to and including FIFA 20. That was annoying. So it’s even nicer that there are no more fitness cards! Already in FIFA 21 they were abolished. Your players now have an optimal fitness level before every match. But what you still need are contract cards to renew expired contracts with players. These cards you either draw in packs or buy on the transfer market.
2. Chemistry – get the most out of your team

In order for your team to perform at its best, you need a team chemistry of 100. To get optimal chemistry, you don’t necessarily have to field eleven players from the same country or league. Even with “hybrid squads,” in which players with different nationalities from different leagues are fielded, it’s not a big problem to achieve a chemistry of 100. To do this, you’ll need to create good links between players. For example, if Lionel Messi plays in attack next to his club mate Neymar, that’s a better link than if the PSG star is lined up next to Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Also affecting team chemistry is the position of your players. If you don’t use them properly and a central defender plays in midfield, for example, the chemistry will drop. However, if you want a left winger to play in left midfield for formation reasons or a central midfielder to play further forward as a central attacking midfielder, you can buy position modifiers on the transfer market. You can then use these cards to equip your players. This way you make sure that the position fits and the chemistry doesn’t drop.
Also, each individual player has a chemistry that is at best 10. Creating a chemistry of 10 for all eleven players is sometimes not that easy – especially if you choose a hybrid squad. But you don’t necessarily have to. If most players have a chemistry of 10, you’ll get a team chemistry of 100 – even if two or three players only have a chemistry of 6 or 7, for example.
3. trading – get coins faster

Trading is essential in Ultimate Team to generate a lot of coins in the long run and build a top team. Especially at the beginning of the FUT – Season you can gain a decisive advantage over the competition with skillful trading. We have some tips for you to become a better FUT trader.
Never discard players
The more you play FUT 22, the more packs you will draw that exclusively contain players you can’t use. You then have two options: Either you remove these players from the club via instant sale or you offer them on the transfer market. We advise you: Don’t remove any player, but ALWAYS offer them on the transfer market! It is an extra effort of a few seconds, but it is worth it. You usually get more coins and can fill your virtual money account faster.
Do not panic
Sounds simple, but it is very important when trading. For example, a player has received an InForm version with improved card values that has a higher value than the original card. You bought this player for your team and find out that just two weeks later an even better InForm card comes on the market because the player scored three goals. Immediately many players will think: Because the new card is even better, nobody wants to play the older, weaker version anymore. Therefore, the card is put directly on the transfer market to get at least a few more coins.
But this is exactly where the mistake lies! Panic has broken out and the player is sold below value. It is constantly undercut and the price falls and falls. A few days later, however, this may have calmed down again and the player regains value. However, it still remains cheaper than the latest version!
Our tip: Wait instead of panicking and undercutting others. Otherwise you will sell your player below value.
Don’t do what everyone else is doing
It is not always advantageous to do what the masses are doing. In phases when many packs are drawn and therefore many new cards end up on the transfer market, you should not offer any of your players. The price will drop and in your situation you should wait until the market calms down. After that you can offer your players for more coins.
Be attentive and speculate
Imagine you are watching a soccer match and a player is playing the game of his life. What can you do as an experienced FUT player? While others are still sitting in front of the TV and marveling at the player’s performance, you should quickly take action – buy the player on FUT during the match and speculate that he will be in the FUT Team of the Week the following week. If he gets an InForm card, the normal version is not available in packs for one week and therefore increases in price.
Our final trading advice: be patient, keep an eye on the market and recognize situations in real soccer that can give you an advantage on the virtual pitch. With practice and experience, you too can become a pro trader and FUT millionaire!
4. Squad building challenges – an investment that pays off

Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) are another way to earn more coins in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team. If you’re lucky, you’ll draw top players like Cristiano Ronaldo or even an icon in the reward packs!
SBCs are all about trading players from your own club for new rewards like packs, coins, and jerseys. We advise you to complete the beginner SBC to get a feel for how it works. After that, you can try your hand at other SBCs. Of course, you won’t always have all the players you need to trade in your club. You’ll also have to be active on the transfer market and buy missing players. This means that an SBC is initially an investment in which you lose coins. But if you are clever, you will always make a profit!
Our tip: You can also use the futhead site for the squad building challenges. There you’ll find solutions for every SBC! In general, community portals like futhead and futbin are an excellent support if you actively play FUT. Both sites offer a database of all players available in FIFA Ultimate Team and show current prices of players. You can also create your dream teams at Squad Builders.
5. icons and heroes – play with Lahm, Gómez & Co.

Icons
Since FIFA 18, “icons” have been part of the game across all platforms. Previously, they were “legends” that were exclusively playable on Xbox. Icons are former soccer stars like Pelé, Lothar Matthäus, Franz Beckenbauer, Philipp Lahm or Bastian Schweinsteiger, who strengthen your Ultimate Team enormously. However, they are also correspondingly expensive. To be able to afford an icon, you’ll have to dig deep into your virtual wallet. Or you can be lucky and get an icon in a pack.
The icons are not only popular because of their strong ratings. If you use players like Roberto Carlos, Paolo Maldini or John Cruyff in the right position, they have a perfect 10/10 chemistry – no matter who plays next to, in front of or behind them. If you have enough coins to strengthen your squad with an icon, you should do it.
Heroes
In addition to the icons, FIFA 22 also features the new FUT Heroes. The FUT Heroes are cards with unique league-specific chemistry linked to respective Hero moments in their careers. They give each player in the same league a green club connection and the usual connection via nationality is also awarded.
Whether icons or Heroes, both types of cards will extremely enrich your FUT team. With the Heroes, FUT 22 gives you even more possibilities to create your dream team. So you can be more creative than ever!
Now you are ready for the start of the FUT 22 – Season . We wish you a lot of fun on the way to your dream team.
