FUT 22 Heroes: 5 club legends from RB Leipzig

There are new cards in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team – the FUT Heroes! We take the opportunity to honor 5 club icons of RB Leipzig with fictional FUT cards.

In a few weeks FIFA 22 will be released, the anticipation in the community is growing every day. Meanwhile, there is a lot of information about the new virtual soccer game from EA Sports – here we keep you up to date with FIFA 22 news. Among other things, the publisher announced that there are new playable maps in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team with the “FUT Heroes”.

What are the FUT Heroes?

The FUT Heroes are cards with a unique league-specific chemistry linked to respective Hero moments in their careers. They give each player in the same league a green club connection and the usual connection via nationality is also given. This gives you new opportunities to build your dream team in FIFA Ultimate Team.

We take the introduction of FUT Heroes as an opportunity to review the club history of Bundesliga soccer team RB Leipzig so far and honor five club legends for their special achievements. We present: The Club Heroes of the Red Bulls!

Dominik Kaiser – The marcher through

When we talk about club legends at RB Leipzig, there’s no getting around him. In 2012, Dominik Kaiser took an unusual route: as a Bundesliga player for TSG Hoffenheim, he moved to the Red Bulls, who were still playing in the 4th division at the time. “Of course, it wasn’t an easy decision to leave the Bundesliga to play amateur soccer in the 4th division again for the time being,” Kaiser recalls, “But I was unhappy with my playing time on the one hand, and on the other, I knew both sporting director Ralf Rangnick and head coach Alexander Zorniger at the time. I had a very good feeling right from the start that something great could be created in Leipzig.”

Kaiser was to be proved right – and the long-time captain played a big part in that himself. The 1.71-meter midfielder stayed in Leipzig for six years. During that time, he and the Red Bulls made it all the way from the 4th league to the Champions League. Madness! The official farewell game for Kaiser in 2018 then marked the end of a successful era. At the Kaiserball, exactly 26,424 fans bid farewell to the captain, who now plays for Hannover 96 in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Daniel Frahn – The pinch hitter

Daniel Frahn was on the ball for RB Leipzig for a similar length of time as Kaiser. From 2010 to 2015, the goal scorer scored as often as he could. On average, Frahn scored more often than in every second game – in three different leagues. What a record! The fact that Leipzig went so quickly from the 4th league to the 2 Bundesliga was also thanks to the center forward.

Even today, the 34-year-old Frahn is still hunting for goals. Since January 2020, the veteran has been playing for SV Babelsberg 03 in the Regionalliga Nordost, where he was once champion with the Red Bulls and was subsequently promoted to the 3rd League. Frahn and RB Leipzig will soon meet again, by the way – in the second round of the DFB Cup, Frahn will play for his long-time club Babelsberg on October 26. Leipzig can only hope that Frahn, who is usually so accurate, will be unable to score on this evening…

Timo Werner – The world-class striker

A year after Daniel Frahn stopped scoring goals for Leipzig, Timo Werner started doing so. And how! The speedy striker joined the first division newcomer in 2016 after a difficult year at his hometown club VfB Stuttgart and the resulting Bundesliga relegation. What followed was an incredible success story. Player and club benefited from each other and spurred each other on. While Werner was able to mature from a top talent to a world-class striker in Leipzig, he helped RB Leipzig become a top club both nationally and internationally. 95 goals in 159 games speak for themselves.

After four years with the Red Bulls, Werner then took the next step in 2020. The Stuttgart native ventured a move to top Premier League club Chelsea FC. And it paid off: Despite intermittent performance fluctuations, he celebrated the greatest success of his career with the English side, winning the Champions League this year. Congratulations, Timo!

Yussuf Poulsen – The up-and-comer

Let’s move on to a goal scorer who has been wearing the RB Leipzig jersey since 2013, which is now eight years: Yussuf Poulsen. His career with the Red Bulls began in the 3rd league. Back then, Poulsen was a blank slate – a Danish talent who wasn’t quite sure what to expect from him. Today, the entire soccer world knows. With Leipzig, he reached the DFB Cup final and was runner-up – and sensationally reached the semifinals of the Champions League in 2020.

But that’s not all. Poulsen has become a permanent fixture in the Danish national team, and it’s hard to imagine the team without him. He has now played 59 international matches (ten goals). There’s no question about it: Poulsen has matured into a top striker during his time in Leipzig and has risen from an unknown talent to an internationally renowned goal scorer. We look forward to seeing more goals from you in an RBL jersey, Yussuf!

Péter Gulácsi – The reliable back-up

While Yussuf Poulsen has been scoring goals up front since 2013, Péter Gulácsi has been responsible for not allowing any goals at the back since 2015. And the Hungarian national keeper has been doing this brilliantly for more than six years now! You can always rely on Gulácsi. This is also proven by his strong record: In 74 of his 229 appearances in the RBL jersey so far, he has not conceded a goal – in other words, Gulácsi plays to zero in almost every third game.

With the Red Bulls, Gulácsi has already been runner-up, reached the DFB Cup final and the Champions League semifinals. And his time in Leipzig seems to be far from over. Only in May, the keeper extended his contract until June 2025, when Gulácsi will be 35. Career end at the Red Bulls? Not out of the question.

Of course, there are many other ex-players and current RB Leipzig players who also deserve to be christened “Club Hero.” To name just a few: Defenders Marcel Halstenberg and Lukas Klostermann, midfielder Emil Forsberg and even last year’s captain Marcel Sabitzer, who followed coach Julian Nagelsmann to FC Bayern Munich after six successful years with the Saxons. They have all played their part in making RB Leipzig a top international club that regularly plays in the top flight.
