Heroes (Dota 2)
The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.
Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.
Magnus: “My horn is sharp, my pike is sharper still.”
Magnus, the Magnoceros (Magnozeros), is a strength hero from DotA and Dota 2. He is a melee unit of the Dire. In the game he can take the role of an Initiator, Disabler, Nukers and Carrys. Shockwave can be applied to a unit or area, causing area damage in the form of a swath. Empower can apply Mangnus to itself or allies to give them a bonus percentage damage and area damage attack. However, the area damage only works on melee fighters. Skewer allows Magnus to crash into enemy ranks, taking enemies with him in his path. These units then suffer damage and are slowed down. However, the ability is also useful for escaping from certain situations. His Ultimate Reverse Polarity draws enemy units to a point, stunning and damaging them, but has a small area of effect, so Magnus must get as close as possible to his chosen target. The stun has a shorter effect on heroes than on creeps. Aghanim’s Scepter does not improve Reverse Polarity, but changes Empower to an Aura.
Magnus- Hype
When his enemies make the mistake of standing close together, they quickly learn to fear Magnus Horn. He draws groups of enemies together in front of his front hooves and stuns them with a powerful stomp. This gives him more than enough time to strike at them with magically enhanced attacks or drive them, impaled on his horn, toward his allies.
Magnus- Biography
“The master smiths of Mount Joerlak agree on one thing: the horn of a magnoceros is the most valuable of all materials. And of all these horns, the longest and sharpest belongs to the beast they call Magnus. For half a generation, Magnus took pleasure in skewering those who sought the treasures of his clan. He always returned victorious to his cave, hooves and horns covered with blood, until one day the matriarch urged him and the rest of the clan to flee north, into the shadow of the mountain. But Magnus, who had defended his brood all these years, only scoffed. The Magnoceroi decided to stay, because a Magnoceros does not believe in chance… and never changes his mind. However, when Mount Joerlak erupted without warning and half of his clan perished in the flames and ash, Magnus relented. The survivors rushed north until they hit a blockade where hundreds of hunters lurked armed with bows and blades. Magnus did not expect anything else. He rallied his most stalwart brothers and sisters and fought the enemy with a ferocity matched only by the fire-breathing mountain at his back. Meanwhile, the old men, the mothers and calves of the Magnoceros disappeared in the flurry. The master smiths disagree about what happened next. Some say Magnus found his way back to his clan, others claim he suffered severe injuries and died in the matriarch’s womb. None of the theories corresponds to the truth. Magnus vowed to return to his clan… but only after he tracked down those responsible for the eruption of Mount Joerlak and they perished on his horn, for a Magnus does not believe in coincidence.”
