Heroes (Dota 2)
The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.
Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.
Meepo: “Name’s Meepo. Geomancer. Pleased to meet ya.”
Meepo, the Geomancer (Earth Summoner), is an agility hero from DotA and Dota 2. He is a Dire melee unit that has the ability to multiply itself permanently. In groups, Meepo hordes can cause devastating damage to the opponent. In the game, he can take the role of a Carry, Disabler and Initiator. With Earthbind, he can trap enemy heroes in a net and prevent their escape for the time being. The channeling ability Poof allows Meepo and any of its duplicates to teleport to another Meepo on the map and deal damage upon their arrival. The third ability, Geostrike, works passively to let Meepo deal additional damage and slow down the attack target. Through his Ultimate Divided We Stand, he creates up to four semi-autonomous duplicates of himself. His duplicates thereby share his abilities, gain gold and experience points just like the original, but can only wear Meepo’s shoes and therefore only possess some of the original’s additional attributes. Passively, Meepo’s respawn time is reduced with each level of the Ultimate. Aghanim’s Scepter provides a fifth Meepo and lets duplicates benefit from the additional attribute bonuses, i.e. bonuses from items. Unlike other heroes, Meepo has a default magic resistance of 35% and can upgrade his Ultiamte from as early as the third level.

By creating up to five permanent copies of himself, Meepo can fight on multiple fronts simultaneously. When he encounters an enemy, he first ties them up, then summons all of his clones with explosive teleportations, and then buries the remains.

“‘If you ask me, life is all about who you know and what you can do. When you’re growing up in the Riftshadow Ruins, finding food can be tricky. So you have to save at every turn, you have to scrounge, you have to know your strengths. Some of the beasts up there can kill you, so you need a way to catch the weak ones and avoid the strong ones. On the other hand, the ruins are steeped in history, and history is pretty important to some people. There used to be a palace there where they celebrated all these dark rituals. Nasty stuff. If you survived the ceremony, they shattered a crystal and tore your soul to pieces. At least they had great works of art! Sculptures and stuff. Take it from me: sometimes you come across some of these old inscriptions. Pick up a stack of them, take them to town and sell them. Then get food for a couple of weeks. If luck is really on your side, you might find a Riftshadow crystal. Get it appraised and start asking around. Someone always knows some idiot looking for one of these things. If all else fails, sell it to a magus once there’s another one in town. They love this stuff. But whatever you do, be careful handling these crystals. You don’t want one of them to explode in your hand. That really hurts.'”
