Silencer: “Any last words?”
Nortrom, the Silencer, is an intelligence hero from DotA and Dota 2. He belongs to the Radiant and is a ranged fighter. In the game he can take on the role of a support, carry and initiator. Silencer has abilities through which he can block the abilities of enemy heroes. Through Curse of Silence, he damages enemy heroes within a target area and forces them to cast abilities, otherwise they lose mana over a period of time. Last Word, on the other hand, curses an enemy hero, silencing and damaging him if he uses an ability during the duration of the curse. If he does not cast one, he is still briefly disarmed, silenced, and damaged at the end of the duration. Glaives of Wisdom is an ability that increases the damage of Silencer’s attacks based on his intelligence, consuming a small amount of mana. In doing so, Silencer can always choose to permanently enchant his attacks, enchant individual attacks, or not use the ability. Another side effect is that it lets Silencer permanently steal two Intelligence Points from enemy Heroes if they die at his hands or near him. Silencer’s Ultimate ability Global Silence even temporarily silences all enemy Heroes on the map, preventing them from casting abilities. If Silencer has Aghanim’s Scepter, Curse of the Silent is cast globally and affected Heroes are affected with Last Word.

Silencer fundamentally affects the course of battles, because he temporarily deprives his opponents of the possibility to use their abilities. As he strikes down his enemies with enchanted Gleven, he steals their Intelligence Points to add to his own. This is how he keeps building his advantage.

“Part of the seventh and final generation of a carefully evolved family tree, Nortrom was bred by the ancient Order of Aeol Drias with the intention of becoming the greatest wizard the world had ever seen. He was the prophet, the culmination of two hundred years of mindful mating, a war mage who would bring glory and honor upon the Order and destruction upon its arch enemies, the Knights of the Inquisition. Raised with other young mages in a hidden training camp among the hills of the Hazhadal Wasteland, the Order’s teachers waited for Nortrom’s abilities to reveal themselves. While the other students honed their talents with fire, ice, or summoning spells, Nortrom remained silent and talentless, barely able to cast a curse. As the day of the final exam approached, he still had not found his magic. With disgust, the teachers berated him, while the children laughed. ‘You are not a mage,’ the head of the order declared. But Nortrom did not sneak away. He attended the day of the exam and faced the young mages who had mocked him. And then his teachers learned a valuable lesson: the absence of magic can be the greatest of all magics. Nortrom silenced the other talented young mages in turn, defeating them in single combat until he alone emerged as the master of Aeol Drias, just as the prophecy had foretold.”
Heroes (Dota 2)
The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.
Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.
