How to attack with Sentinels in Valorant
Attacking and offensive moves are not included with Sentinel agents. However, that doesn’t mean the skills can’t support the team. When playing with Sentinels, your main goal should be to defend flanks and ambushes. The best way to help is to place Chambers Trademark or Cypher’s Tripwire ability directly where you are attacking. This way, you and your team will get information about whether someone is trying to ambush you from behind.
At the top of the picture you can see a perfect example on Split. If you place a trap with Chamber, Cypher or Killjoy at the door of Mid, you will be warned of enemy intruders. Sage doesn’t work the same way, but her focus is more on healing and reviving duelists. However, her wall is of great use in post-plant situations. And that’s a point where the Sentinel agents shine as well. Blocking off entire sections with Sage’s wall or setting traps in nooks and openings from which enemies can emerge will give you all the information you need to win the game.
An important point when attacking with a guardian agent is not to rush anything. You’ll be killed instantly with a Yoru flash, so you won’t be able to give your team any information about your enemies. Stay safely in the background and watch the obvious angles until you gain control of the site.
How to defend yourself with the Sentinels in Valorant
Defending is the specialty of the Sentinel agents. This is where they are most successful and can often oversee an entire terrain by themselves. Your job as a Sentinel agent in defense is to set your traps at angles and openings from which the enemy can enter the bomb site. This way you will know if the enemies are trying to advance. These traps are also helpful in keeping the gengers at bay until your team is ready for a fair fight.
The hard part about defending with the Sentinels is changing the placement of the special abilities occasionally. If you place them in the same place every time, your enemies will know where they are and shoot them down every time. Of course, this does not apply to Sage’s wall.
Valorant Sentinels Tips and Tricks

- Learn Agent Configuration: Sentinel agents work best when you know your lineups. Learning where to place the Sage wall or Killjoy turret is essential, as it’s the only way to effectively push back enemies.
- Watch your credits: Using all your abilities isn’t cheap, especially if you’re defending as a guard. You’ll often use all of your abilities. For example, buying all of Chamber’s abilities costs 1100 credits, while buying all of Cypher’s abilities costs 600 credits.
- Play smart: As a guardian, you shouldn’t get involved in offensive moves. Staying back and waiting for enemies to come across your traps is the best way to get kills.
- Ping or inform your team about enemy information: Never forget to ping your team and let them know where the enemies are when your traps are triggered. As a Sentinel, you are a support agent.

This beginner’s guide is meant to help you get started in Valorant and introduce you to the world of Valorant. After that, the most important features should be clear to you, so that the fun in Valorant is not lost.
Valorant Beginner Guide: Basics
Let’s start with the meaning behind the game. In other words: What is Valorant anyway? Valorant is a first-person shooter in which two teams consisting of five players face off. The first team to win 13 rounds wins. Both teams have a different role – attacker and defender.
The goal of the attackers is to place a spike and protect it until detonation. This must happen on one of the three spots (A/B/C). In turn, the defenders must prevent the attackers from doing so.
Each match consists of two halves. After the first half (12 rounds), the two teams switch roles. The attackers become defenders, the defenders become attackers. Easy.
Agents
Before the start of a match, each player must choose an agent. Agents have unique skills, which in most cases also require a certain playstyle (offensive, defensive, support, etc.). Currently there are 16 agents in total, but new agents have already been leaked and should be added soon.
As a new player, you can initially choose between 5 free agents: Brimstone, Phoenix, Sova, Jett and Sage. To unlock more agents, you will have to sign contracts, which is mostly done via Daily Quests or earning experience points.
Valorant Beginner Guide: The best agent to start with
Phoenix is by far the easiest agent to start with in Valorant. His skills are not too complicated, can be combined well in any situation. But watch out with the flashbangs (aka your Q skill)! You’ll probably flashbang yourself and your mates quite often in the beginning, but practice makes perfect!
Valorant Beginner Guide: The best mode to start with
Stay away from Unrated mode for the beginning. This may sound strange, but especially the beginning of Valorant might be hard for you. Frustration will lead to quick quits, which in turn will get you involved in penalties and XP loss. That’s why you should start with Spike Rush first. An average game here lasts 8 minutes, while other modes can easily go over 50 minutes. In Spike Rush, you’ll be quickly released from suffering without having to take any penalties.
In addition, you don’t have to do any eco rounds in Spike Rush. This means that you’ll be able to try out your agents’ abilities, as well as the most varied weapons. Spike Rush is a great mode to learn the basics of Valorant. When you feel like you’re firmly in the saddle, you can try your luck in Unrated mode. After 20 matches in Unrated mode, you’ll gain access to Competitive mode, where you can earn ranks.
