With the launch of WoW: Shadowlands behind us and The Burning Crusade Classic ahead, 2021 could be very exciting for WoW fans – at least if Blizzard doesn’t screw it up… What are your wishes for the coming WoW year?
Do not worry. Things aren’t getting as political here as they were in Martin Luther King’s historic speech. My dreams are more focused on what awaits us in Azeroth in 2021. The coming months could be very exciting and fun for all WoW fans. Based on the experiences of the last few years, Blizzard is always good for wrong decisions and a shitstorm.
Blizzcon in February
Since the final phase 6 has already started in WoW Classic and we are in the middle of the first – Season in Shadowlands, WoW fans can expect the next important date in February. On February 19th and 20th The first online BlizzCon in Blizzard history is on the rise and it is already clear: everyone who is interested can follow the streaming event for free. However, it is unclear which announcements and panels the Californians have planned. In the worst case, there will be a new edition of the diablogate during BlizzCon 2018: Instead of news that make us look forward to it, the developers are selling us the next mobile game as a highlight. What’s up, you guys still don’t have cell phones?
Meanwhile, I’m dreaming of the official announcement of classic servers for The Burning Crusade. I would also like a concrete view of what awaits us in the shadow lands with the upcoming patches. If, for dessert, there’s new Diablo 4 material that makes my mouth water, and if Blizzard also has an update for Overwatch 2 (date for the beta, plx!) in its luggage, I’m all for it First very happy.
Plans for the Shadowlands
Of course, specifically announcing the further plans for the shadow lands does not necessarily mean that we like Blizzard’s plans. For my part, I’m particularly excited to see how Torghast develops over the next few months. At the moment I still enjoy mastering the levels together with my better half. The legendary recipes and the ashes of souls are also a good incentive to visit the tower weekly. But what will that look like in a few weeks?
The expansion of the fame levels can certainly receive new impulses in the medium term. Saving five souls and collecting 1,000 anima every week is simply boring. Admittedly, the new chapters of the Pact campaign, which you unlock via the fame levels, are a good thing. Ultimately, I dream above all that Blizzard will remember the “Legion Way of Life” and throw out new content without endless content holes, but will provide sufficient fine-tuning and continue the story of the expansion in a coherent way. Nobody really needs the next Sylvanas Shitstorm.
Please don’t mess up TBC Classic!
After all the fun I’ve had with WoW (buy now) Classic, I’m really excited for The Burning Crusade Classic servers. At the same time, the implementation of Classic also showed me how much Blizzard can do wrong when it comes to the supposedly simple implementation of such a new edition.
This already starts with the transition from Classic to TBC Classic: will the current servers be upgraded or will there be new ones? Does Blizzard offer character copies and server transfers or do we all have to start from level 1? And if we are allowed to play our old Classic characters in TBC Classic, will there be restrictions on the number of transferable characters, gold, and materials, or will Blizzard completely derail the Outland economy from Day 1? The next step is to provide the servers: language or region servers? Are there early RP servers? Will there be enough servers to keep Outland reasonably playable?
And even if Blizzard finds the right answers to all these questions, they can screw up the TBC new edition completely if they simply use the latest patch status as a basis – as in Classic. Nobody wants super easy TBC raids and dungeons that everyone can easily access without having to master the previous content. Likewise, it would be a mistake to make Tier 4 and Tier 5 raids available right from launch, as was the case back then. The experienced private server guilds would put Kael’thas as well as Lady Vashj in a few IDs.
One can still dream
I’m skeptical that Blizzard can address all of my concerns. The corona pandemic will certainly not make this task any easier in 2021. At the same time, I’m also optimistic: After BfA, Shadowlands is another step in the right direction. And despite the shortcomings, WoW Classic was just awesome. So it doesn’t have to be perfect to be fun.
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
