Riot has just announced their new skins for 2022. There are new Ancestral Wood skins and an Arcane skin! Which champions are affected? And how expensive will the skins be?
Arcane is not over yet, baby! There were four free skins thanks to the best Netflix series in the world. But Riot says: that’s not enough for us! We’ll keep riding the hype train towards the sunset. That’s because the next Arcane-themed skin is coming soon.
Along with all the Arcane fun, we’re heading back into the deep mysteries of the Ancestral Wood world. Two unknown, new faces await us there. So let’s take a look into the fortune-telling sphere to see what’s in store.
Which champions will Elderwod and Arcane Skins get?
Ekko gets an Arcane Skin. Finally! We feel like we’ve been transported back to Arcane’s release date. Hah, sweet times. I’d love to flash my brain so I can experience the series again for the first time. You can definitely enjoy Ekko in-game for the first time with his Firelights skin.
Of course, Riot had to skin those exquisite Firelight outfits and give the boy who can turn back time a little wake-up call. So get ready for Firelight Ekko, because he’ll be in the store soon!
Also, two more Ancestral Wood skins have been announced. Gnar and Rek’Sai can sit back and relax with a new set of clothes. And… wow. They are beautiful. Currently, they are being tested on the PBE and Rek’Sai fits so well into the ancestral wood concept, I accidentally cast her the other day.
How much do the Ancestral Wood and Arcane skins cost?
The Ekko skin is unfortunately not free. With the other Arcane skins, it was still possible. But Firelight Ekko looks a bit more elaborate than the skins of Cait or Vi. The other Arcane skins are currently available for 975 RP in the store and Ekko looks a bit more expensive. Firelight Ekko will cost 1350 RP upon release.
On the other hand, Gnar and Rek’sai will also cost 1350 RP when they are released. But honestly? We call that worth.
When will the ancestral wood skins be released?
LoL Patch 11.24 came out on December 8, 2021. That means these will be the first skins we get to see in 2022. According to the official patch schedule, there should be no new patches for 2021 as of now. Mr. and Mrs. Rito will probably rest a bit between the years. They deserve it after this year.
So this means that the release date of these skins is not fixed yet. But it could take only a few weeks until all the skins will be released on the live servers. Until then, you can test them out on the PBE and give feedback to Riot, which they can hopefully use to improve the performance of the champions.
When will Firelight Ekko be released?
Riot had to push back the release of Firelight Ekko by a few patches. Originally, the skin was supposed to be released for 1350 RP in LoL Patch 12.01. However, Mr. and Mrs. Rito didn’t count on the resistance of the players there. Within the community, the torches have already been lit, the pitchforks already polished up. Now everyone: *breathe in*… and… 1350RP!!! TOO MUCH! Too much we say! Riot is exaggerating beyond measure.
The Firelight Ekko skin was originally supposed to be released without new SFX. SFX stands for “Sound Effects/Special Effects for Sound”. And a 1350 RP skin, only with VFX update (i.e. “Visual Effects”), that’s not possible at all.

The price of the skins in the first step depends on how many special features they have. And you can imagine how big the outcry was when Riot suddenly wanted to deliver less for the same price. So far, every 1350 skin has come with some kind of new sound effects, whether it’s voice lines, backport, or abilities. The same goes for the previous Ekko skins.
Mr. and Mrs. Rito have addressed the criticism though, so all good. Riot will probably wait one or two patches before releasing Firelight Ekko. But in return the skin gets a new sound package and even a little homeguard animation! The hoverboard is back, baby!

Champion skin
Champion skin (or skin for short) refers to the color scheme or appearance of a champion. Most champion skins can be purchased in the Riot Shop with Riot Points, while others are/were only available for special events/promotions. However, some selected chroma skins (color-changed skins)can be purchased at special events for Blue Essence. Some champion skins bring new particles for visual effects, quotes and sound effects. Each skin has its own splashart, which is displayed in the champion selection and loading screen. Since patch 7.16, the custom champion image is also matched to the skin in the game itself.

What is League of Legends (“LoL”) about?
In a classic game of “League of Legends,” two teams each have five characters called champions, each with individual characteristics.
