Asylum is a multiplayer map from Call of Duty: World at War.

Description

Asylum is a bit similar to Showdown, but still more extensive. It is something like the successor of Vacant, as it also has many long corridors, small side alleys and many different routes. Nevertheless, Asylum is quite small. It is particularly suitable for games with few people, but it can also accommodate many players. As the name suggests, the map is set in a small German asylum, based on the single-player mission Ring of Steel, in which Dimitri Petrenko raids the German Asylum. You won’t find any room for ranged combat on the map most of the time, as the nooks and crannies are all laid out very tightly. It is best to use a submachine gun or a rifle. Shotguns are also suitable, as there is not much space between the enemies and the player, but thanks to the slow reload time, they tend to stand out negatively. Grenades should only be thrown with caution, as you can blow yourself up or at least seriously injure yourself. This map is based on a map from the survival game, Crazy.

Places

• Cafeteria: This is where the Red Army spawns. Most people like to stay here for the fight because there is also a window overlooking the entire area. Also, you can easily look at the enemy’s path and cut them off if you spot an enemy. The downside is that many enemies like to come in from behind, as the courtyard is an open area with many opportunities for cover. However, if someone from the team is watching to make sure no one comes from behind, this danger is also averted.
• Bathroom: A lot of fights take place in this place. Whoever holds this place can look over the whole map, as you can see the Red Army spawn point, the Wehrmacht spawn point, the courtyard and the second floor. The showers are also where you’ll find most of the campers hoping to get some kills, as the bathroom is a busy place.
• North End: This is where the Wehrmacht spawns. From the start to the end of the game, this area is always rather deserted. The main points of combat are far away and not many players stay here. In game modes where you have to conquer something, flags can spawn here, adding a little life to the area, otherwise there is never anyone there.
• Broken Roof Area: This area in the northwestern point of the map is also well contested. Possessing this place gives the player’s team a big advantage. No matter where the enemies come from, you always have them in sight and can control all the entrances. There are also many walls behind which you can take cover. This is the point where most artillery attacks are launched, because not only is it filled with enemy players, but it also has the openness of a broken roof, which allows mortar strikes to pass through easily.

• Eerie and unexplainable sounds can be heard in the bathroom, including two men whispering, a girl crying, a coin falling, piano music and a knife digging into cement.
• The sound of the piano playing gets loudest at a building near the Russian spawn, which means that the piano is being played inside the building. But since the building is locked, the player can’t really know what’s going on inside.
• If you stand near the windows, you can sometimes hear the sound of a window being repaired. This could have been an allusion by Treyarch that the first survival DLC is based on the map Asylum.
• When the player stands on the roof in Observer mode, a knocking on wood can be heard.
• Outside the map there are many burnt buildings and trees, but also a tree that can only be seen in free mode, otherwise, it is not there.
• Sometimes you can hear the sounds of electricity on the map, the next clue to the first DLC.
• Also, sometimes you can hear a train, but there is none to be seen.
• The survival map “Crazy” is based on Asylum.

Call of Duty
