Derail is a large multiplayer map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Description
Derail is one of the largest maps in Modern Warfare 2, set in a train derailment plant in snowy Russia. For the most part, the map consists of open space with a bridge and train cars, but in the middle there are also two huge warehouses and at one of the ends there is a small shopping mall.
Derail is usually considered a map for snipers, but you can easily play on it with any kind of weapon. Close quarters combat takes place in the large warehouse in the middle, while sniper rifles and assault rifles venture out into the fields and onto the roof of one warehouse, respectively. If you have a thermal sight, you shouldn’t use it on this map, because it might be helpful on other maps, but it doesn’t do much good in this snowy area.

- On some of the wagons there are paintings, which can also be seen on the walls on the map Favela.
- Although the map is set in Russia, the trains are all American. The freight trains are in the American design and are also marked as such. Additionally, the locomotive numbered 1337 is an EMD GP7 or GP9, an older locomotive from the 1950s that is still widely used in America but would probably never be encountered in Russia.
- On some of the cars is IW 2002, a reference to Infinity Ward and the year the company was founded.
- In a filing cabinet in the middle building is a teddy bear. You can open it by knifing it.
- The weapons all look like they’re covered in frost in the first-person perspective.
- In the building with the many cargo crates, there are several pictures of a Russian woman with a Thompson.
- Around the computers in the main building are pictures of horses or the doodles of small children.
- This is one of many maps where there is a Nova gas station.
Call of Duty
