During a live stream interview, Anna Donlon and Joe Ziegler announced that the official release date for Riot Games’ tactical shooter Valorant will be June 2.
Geoff Keighley interviewed Anna Donlon and Joe Ziegler on the “thegameawards” channel. The two Riot Games employees answered some of the most interesting questions and revealed a lot of new information.
The summer was loose enough to give us time to respond to all the feedback on the closed beta.
Since Project A became Valorant, we kept hearing that the new title would be released in the summer of 2020. Many doubted that Riot would be true to their word due to the coronavirus pandemic and all the complications that come with it. Surprisingly, Riot Games has stuck to the schedule and has apparently even moved the release forward.
What can we expect?
June 2 is the confirmed date for the release. Riot has also published an official blog post explaining some details about this magical date. The launch of the game will also introduce some additional content.
Originally we thought that there will be 12 agents, but we have reduced the pool to 11. The 11 agents will be pretty interesting and maybe pretty spicy.
Judging from what Ziegler said, there could be some interesting abilities available to the new agent. Whether players will be excited or annoyed by this remains to be seen. Joe Ziegler also mentioned that there will be a new map. He indicated that most players have already seen the upcoming map. This is basically a confirmation that it will be Ascent.
The current plan also includes an additional mode at launch. The main idea behind the new mode is supposed to be a shorter fun mode. Just like League of Legends has a fun mode where you can just have fun, Valorant is supposed to get something similar. Donlon said it definitely won’t be team deathmatch, though, so we wonder what it could be.
The main concern during the beta was to keep queue times down and gather enough feedback from players.
Getting and keeping players in was also a top priority, according to Donlon.

After the summer launch, the game is expected to receive additional content, as both Riot employees mentioned. This will undoubtedly include new maps, new agents, perhaps new weapons, skins, modes and more.
Donlon and Ziegler also spoke briefly about Vanguard. They claimed that the anti-cheat program does not report sensitive data back to them, and while they understand the concerns of most players, Vanguard should be considered as secure as possible. Whether this will convince the community remains to be seen, but there’s no denying that Riot has done a good job improving its anti-cheat program.

What is Valorant?
Valorant initially appears to be a cross between CS:Go and Overwatch . A competitive shooter where two small teams compete against each other.
Your team is either ready to attack or defend, with the attackers placing a “stinger” (essentially a bomb) that the other team must then defuse or preferably prevent you from placing at all.
The attacking team can win by either eliminating the defenders or placing the stinger and then protecting it from defusing until the timer runs out. The defenders can similarly win by destroying the attackers before they have a chance to plant their stinger, or disarming the stinger after it has been planted.
Each team of five can play as both attackers and defenders during a game. Each game has a total of 25 rounds, with the first team to win 13 rounds declared the winner
