Valorant Patch 2.02 has just been released, and already there is information about the next patch. The next update 2.03 for the shooter from Riot Games will change the ranked rewards and introduce penalties.
Patch 2.02 is live and fixes one of the biggest issues in the game, movement accuracy. Fans have long wanted improvements in this area. And Riot has delivered. Whether the changes are comprehensive enough will be seen in the coming weeks.
What can we expect in patch 2.03?
In a blog post from Riot, the main topic was the last patch. But they also revealed a little bit about patch 2.03.
In the post they address two big changes. The Ranked rewards and new penalties.
Ranked Rewards
“With the old system, we checked every nine games to see if you were at the correct rank. The new system tests you at the rank it would rank you at, and you end up at your correct MMR over a handful of games.
We are more convinced of the new system. Once you reach a rank, you’ve been tested enough and should be rewarded immediately when you reach it. This means that your act rank will be derived from the highest triangle rank in your act rank badge, not your top nine wins. You still need to achieve nine victories to fill your Act Rank badge, but you will be rewarded for the highest of those nine victories. This is also how your reward is determined at the end of the episode.
We want to reward you properly for your place on the leaderboard that you’ve achieved at the end of the act. We’re not saying exactly how we’re going to reward you yet, but we’re going to reward you for the place you achieved at the end of the act. However, it remains that you will get rewards once per episode, so you can get better within an episode and within an act.
That means that those who level up quickly can have the Act Rank Immortal/Radiant, but then if they perform less, they get different rewards. We want to be able to celebrate in the next act that you were in the top 5 or top 10 on the leaderboard.”
With the introduction of Patch 2.03, players will be rewarded with the highest rank they have achieved in a series. It is not yet clear if the rewards themselves will be changed.
AFK Penalties
“Teammates who go AFK usually mess up a rated match big time, and make you lose RW when you don’t deserve it.
The first step is a suitable punishment for players in rated mode who go AFK. They lose RW, and possibly even more than is actually our maximum. This is the first measure we’re taking to combat AFK players, but we’re working on more, and hopefully can talk about it in future updates!
More info on how AKF rank punishments work can be found in the patch notes for patch 2.03, and soon there will be an overview of upcoming punishment changes as well.”
It is good news that AFK players will be punished more severely. Unfortunately, they will always be there anyway. Perhaps it would be better to reduce the points lost by teammates? I’m sure Riot will find a way to get this under control.

What is Valorant?
Valorant initially appears to be a cross between CS:Go and Overwatch . A competitive shooter where two small teams compete against each other.
Your team is either ready to attack or defend, with the attackers placing a “stinger” (essentially a bomb) that the other team must then defuse or preferably prevent you from placing at all.
The attacking team can win by either eliminating the defenders or placing the stinger and then protecting it from defusing until the timer runs out. The defenders can similarly win by destroying the attackers before they have a chance to plant their stinger, or disarming the stinger after it has been planted.
Each team of five can play as both attackers and defenders during a game. Each game has a total of 25 rounds, with the first team to win 13 rounds declared the winner
