Valorant has been officially released for over a week now, and that’s exactly how long it took Riot to release a new patch. Among other things, Sage has to accept a nasty nerf.
Throughout the closed beta period, Valorant received numerous patches to fix various issues. Now that the game has been officially released, we weren’t expecting a new patch. However, Riot seems to have a few small concerns and is therefore diligently continuing to tinker with their new baby: Valorant. A week after the big launch, Riot updates Valorant with patch 1.01, which is only a small update, but brings several changes.
So let’s take a look at what Valorant Patch 1.01 brings with it.
Agents
Sage
- The range of the Barrier Orb has been reduced from 20 to 10 meters.
Developer Comment: “As a Guardian, Sage is said to be most effective when defending territory she already controls. The 20 meter throw range allowed Sage to aggressively take control of neutral territory in a way that was inappropriate for her role in Valorant. This reduction in throw distance is aimed at keeping them strong in defending territory, but reducing their effectiveness in taking ground.”
Sage gets an already anticipated nerf. The range on her Barrier Orb was insane and allowed her to far surpass her defensive abilities. The “support” agent has already been nerfed several times, but she’s still a must-have on any team, as all of her abilities continue to seem overwhelming. Unless Riot plans to revamp the healer, she will remain the most sought-after choice for the foreseeable future.

- Several places where weapons fell through the map and there were problems with wallbangs have been fixed.

- Changed several callout names to fit better.
Modes
Spike Rush
- Each game of Spike Rush now includes a set of 5 random orbs.
- The Full Ultimate Orb will always be available.
- 4 of the remaining 7 Orb Types will be randomly selected.
- Selected Orb Types will be displayed in a description widget during both Agent Selection and Pre-Round.
New Orb Types
Health Orb – Grants team-wide health regeneration (instant):
- 20 seconds duration
- 12 HP per second (3HP per tick)
- SFX/VFX only while actually healing
Deception Orb – Applies “paranoia” to enemy team 3 seconds after pickup:
- 10 second debuff
- Vision is severely impaired (and a small shift in the field of vision)
- False steps and shooting sounds for affected players
- Minimap is disabled
Golden Gun – Grants the player a Golden Gun:
- One shot, one kill
- Absolutely accurate at all times
- Agent moves at “knife” speed
- Has only a single bullet in the chamber and 2 spare bullets
- Kills grant an extra shot
Spike Rush is the mode where players enjoy themselves, as it is much more casual. Rush is also much more fast-paced than the classic mode. Valorant Patch 1.01 introduced new orbs here, so now there is even more variety.

What is Valorant?
Valorant initially appears to be a cross between CS:Go and Overwatch . A competitive shooter where two small teams compete against each other.
Your team is either ready to attack or defend, with the attackers placing a “stinger” (essentially a bomb) that the other team must then defuse or preferably prevent you from placing at all.
The attacking team can win by either eliminating the defenders or placing the stinger and then protecting it from defusing until the timer runs out. The defenders can similarly win by destroying the attackers before they have a chance to plant their stinger, or disarming the stinger after it has been planted.
Each team of five can play as both attackers and defenders during a game. Each game has a total of 25 rounds, with the first team to win 13 rounds declared the winner
