You can currently fight a total of 20 Pokémon in the Pokémon GO Raids. Divided into five tiers and the ex-raid, there are some pocket monsters that really kick ass in the meta – and others that are no longer worth the effort even for collectors. We’ll tell you what’s what.
If you’re currently roaming the virtual realms of Pokémon GO, you’re most likely after the attack form of Deoxys, which can even be defeated and caught solo in an ex-raid with the right preparation. However, the current constellation of Raid Pokémon January 2019 is worth a second look beyond the glittering Deoxys loot: Because among the pocket monsters that you can catch in Tier One to Five, some particularly worthwhile pearls are slumbering.
Currently, you can encounter the following Pokémon in the Pokémon GO Raids:
- Ex-Raid: Deoxys (Attack Form)
- Tier 5: Heatran
- Tier 4: Knogga (ALoLa), Despotar, Geowaz, Rizeros
- Tier 3: Starmie, Donphan, Raichu (ALoLa), Machomei, Tohaido
- Tier 2: Kapilz, Flunkifer, Tyracroc, Sandamer
- Tier 1: Bamelin, Karpador, Wailmer, Makuhita, Sheinux
Those who are primarily interested in the Pokémon that unleash their full power in the Pokémon GO meta will focus on Heatran, Despotar, Rizeros, Machomei, Karpador, and Makuhita. Trainers who are primarily interested in Shiny Pokémon, on the other hand, set out to raid against ALoLa Knogga, ALoLa Raichu, Flunkifer, Karpador, Wailmer, Makuhita, and Sheinux. Accordingly, players with the Raid against Makuhita win twice.
The rest of the Pokémon you can currently encounter in Raids are really only worth the effort if you haven’t already added them to your collection. The Water Pokémon are all inferior to Kyogre and Garados, while Golem loses out to Despotar and Kapilz to Machomei and Bisaflor.
Tyracroc, by the way, is a special case. Because Pokemongohub refers in this context to the upcoming Karnimani Community Day, where you can evolve Tyracroc to Impergator with Aquahaubitze. If Impergator with Aqua Howitzer will be community day exclusive in the long run, it might be worth farming Tyracroc right now. Pokemongohub has the following hints:
- Impergator with Aqua Howitzer has 24.6 percent more DPS than Turtok with Aqua Howitzer – a decent boost for the Water Pokémon. Impergator could thus become one of the best Water Pokémon behind Kyogre.
- Aqua Howitzer makes Impergator stronger than Garados with Waterfall and Hydro Pump.
- Sumpex with Aquahaubitze stays slightly ahead of Impergator with Aquahaubitze, but the advantage is slim.
- Aqua Howitzer is a good attack for both raids and trainer battles.

Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
