The developers of Pokémon Go have given Special Box, Super Box and Hyperbox new content for the start of October 2018. Are the new boxes in the in-game store of Niantics app worthwhile or rather not? We’ll explain.
October 2018 comes with highlights for some Pokémon Go trainers: On the one hand, you can now find Deoxys in the EX Raids, and on the other hand, there’s Mewtu in regular Raids. In addition, the period in which you can get regional Pokémon like Porenta and Kangama from the 7km Friend Eggs has been extended. Because of this, the app’s creators at Niantic seem to have figured that they can give the Special Box, Super Box, and Hyperbox in the in-game store new content.
Pokémon Go Hub fans have taken a close look at the content to tell you if the box deals are worth it – or if there’s nothing exciting to see. A bit of a spoiler up front: the amount of Pokécoins saved when buying the boxes has diminished compared to the offers of the recent past. But first, let’s take a look at what you’ll get with the boxes.

In direct comparison with the boxes at the end of September, all three have lost. The Special Box has lost one egg incubator, the Super Box has lost two Super Incubators, but at least a Premium Raid Pass has been added. The Ultrabox has probably lost the most appeal. Although you still save coins compared to buying certain items individually or as a package, four Premium Raid Passes have been removed. In general, this has reduced the obvious savings – but they are still there. Still, it may be worth waiting for a better sale instead of getting rid of your hard-earned Pokécoins now.
The special box is still a solid deal for those of you who don’t want to spend a lot, although the number of egg incubators has been reduced. At least you get a lure module for it. For the Superbox, the difference between buying the Raid Passes individually is only 160 Pokécoins. If you can do something with the additional content, such as the Super Spawning Machines (although the number has been reduced here as well), then you can go for it. If you’re only interested in the Raid Passes, then you’re better off without the box.
The current Hyperbox offer can hardly keep up with past ones, but you will of course save on this box if you grab it. The smoke is what irritates PoGoHub fans the most, as you would expect to find Lock Modules in the Hyperbox. If you are still looking for regional Pokémon, then you can grab it. If you’re only interested in the Raid Passes, then don’t bother.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
