PoGO – Pokémon GO: Beetle Event Box Sale - which box is worth it for which trainer?

PoGO – Pokémon GO: Beetle Event Box Sale – which box is worth it for which trainer?

After the developers of Pokémon Go briefly offered no boxes at all in the store, Special Box, Super Box, Hyperbox and Adventure Box are now available again. We take a look at the boxes and tell you for which PoGo trainer the offers are most suitable.

The Pokémon Go trainers based in the editorial office weren’t surprised when, for the first time in what felt like ages, no box sale jumped out at them in the store of Niantic’s AR app. The creators of Pokémon Go have corrected this “grievance” in the near future, which is why the April box sale now includes a new filling for the Special Box, Super Box, and Hyperbox, and the Adventure Box is back as well. First of all: The contents of the Hyperbox and the Adventure Box are not strictly separable as “for raiders” and “for brooders” like in the Equinox Sale.

While that may be true for the Adventure Box – for the brooders among you, by the way – the Hyperbox offers incentives to both brooders and raiders. There’s no such thing as a pure raider box, though. But before we dive into analyzing the contents and the savings associated with the purchase, here’s an overview of the stuff included in Special Box, Superbox, Hyperbox, and Adventure Box. As usual, the numbers behind the items mark the numerical adjustments compared to the previous sale. Let’s go!

Box Special Box Super box Hyper box Adventure Box
Price 480 Pokécoins 780 Pokécoins 1,480 Pokécoins 1,480 Pokécoins
Contents 1 x Super Brood (+1) 2 x Premium Raid Pass (-2) 15 x Premium Raid Pass (+5) 14 x Super Brood (+3)
1 x Lucky Egg (+1) 4 x Super Hatchery (+1) 7 x Super Hatchery (-3) 3 x Egg Hatchery (-1)
3 x egg incubator (+0) 5 x lucky egg (+1) 4 x lucky egg (+4) 4 x lucky egg (+4)
4 x Star Piece (+0) 4 x Star Piece (+0)

At first glance, the picture is ambivalent. The special box still offers beginners good content for their money, especially since the number of egg incubators has increased from two to three. In this respect, there is some added value for the 480 Pokécoins (Premium Raid Passes and Egg Incubators alone would cost 650 coins if purchased individually). Perhaps a bit ambivalent are the 20 Hyperballs that remain in the package compared to before. It can be assumed that the developers at Niantic are going all out in the respect that the buyers of the box are quite fond of the upcoming Beetle Event, which starts on April 2 at 10 p.m. and is active until April 9 at 10 p.m..

Since a smoke bonus is turned on during the Beetle Event (smoke stays active twice as long, plus more Pokémon appear when you fire up a smoke), it’s generally not at all surprising that smoke is included in every box – that’s why we’re renaming the box sale from April Box Sale to Beetle Event Box Sale after all! The contents of the Super Box haven’t changed much in terms of the quantities of Raid Passes and Super Brooders – one Premium Raid Pass has been added, while one Super Brooder has been dropped. This reduces the savings compared to before, but this time you get smoke and lucky eggs instead of star pieces and sanana berries. But that alone doesn’t make the purchase worthwhile. After all, if you really wanted your Poké Coins, you could just spend them on Smoke and Lucky Eggs. Overall, the Superbox makes a half-baked impression. If you can muster the coins, then you should forget about the Superbox and set your sights on the Hyperbox.

The Hyperbox offers more than double the value compared to the Superbox for 1,480 Pokécoins. The math is very simple on Premium Raid Passes and Super Brood Machines: a double-purchased Superbox for 1,560 coins gets you a slim eight Raid Passes and six Brood Machines, while 1,480 coins gets you a Hyperbox with ten of each of both items. Plus, in addition to the smoke, four star pieces, which will pay off for those of you who want to farm more stardust than experience points (through the lucky eggs in the superbox). Compared to buying it individually, you’ll save over 1,500 Pokécoins when buying the Hyperbox in terms of Raid Passes and Hatcheries alone. However, as mentioned earlier, this box again tries to cater to both trainer groups, hatchers and raiders. If you only want the Premium Raid Passes, you’ll get a better deal if you buy them individually – although we can now argue whether the four Star Pieces aren’t at least worth it for the 480 extra coins. Super Brooders and Smoke, on the other hand, are aimed at the breeders. If you don’t see yourself as a hybrid player aka raider and brooder, then stay away from the box.

And also from the adventure box. Because Niantic actually did a pretty good job of pleasing both groups with Hyperbox and Adventure Box during the Equinox Sale. The Beetle Event Sale, on the other hand, is aimed at breeders and hybrid players, not raiders. This is because the Adventure Box doesn’t include Raid Passes and has even become a bit weaker in terms of Super Brooders (-1). At least your savings increase because two egg incubators have been added. Compared to the individual purchase of the hatching machines, the adventure box is almost 1,200 Pokécoins cheaper; in addition, the timely use of the star pieces for the hatching of the Pokémon can be worthwhile in terms of stardust.

The conclusion: The special box is good for beginners, the Superbox loses massively in attractiveness compared to the Hyperbox. The Hyperbox is not aimed at Pokémon Go trainers who exclusively raid, but at raider-hatching hybrids. And the Adventure Box is only grabbed by those of you who want to hatch a lot of eggs. Above all, the raiders among you are waiting for another sale.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
