Update from November 16, 2021: Cresselia is back in Pokémon Go and can be fought as a raid boss in Tier 5 arenas. If you’re lucky after defeating Cresselia, you can even capture it as a Shiny! Cresselia is currently available as part of the Pokémon Radiant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl events. This time you also have some time to hunt for Shiny Cresselia: It will remain in the raids until December 1, 2021. Cresselia Counter
As a Psycho Pokémon, Cresselia takes more damage from Beetle, Spirit, and Unlight attacks. Therefore, reach for the following Pokémon:
- Mega Gengar with Dark Claw and Spookball.
- Mega Dog Demon with Taunt and Parasite
- Mega Absol with tirade and dark aura
- Skelabra with burden and spookball
- Darkrai with tirade and spookball
- Mega-Garados with bite and crunch
- Hoopa with astonishment and spookball
- Mega-Bibor with bug bite and cross scissors
- Giratina (original form) with dark claw and spookball
- Gengar with dark claw and spookball
- Yveltal with tirade and dark aura
- Snibunna with tirade and parasite
Original news from November 21, 2018: Cresselia is the new Tier 5 raid boss in Pokémon Go, available until December 18. We show you how good the Psycho Pokémon is in the metagame and which Pokémon are the best counters against Cresselia. First of all, with just 152 attack points, Cresselia is more of a Dex Filler and barely usable in the metagame. By comparison, the baby Pokémon Kussilla comes in at 153 points, a higher attack value than the new Tier 5 Legendary boss.
What it lacks in attack points, the legendary Pokémon makes up for in defense. Therefore, Cresselia requires at least three people with very well-matched teams and additional friendship and possibly weather bonuses. From four trainers with halfway good counters, the whole thing becomes easier again and all groups with more than four players should have no problems against Cresselia. As a Psycho Pokémon, Cresselia is vulnerable to Spirit, Beetle, and Unlight attacks.
Since Cresselia is a Psycho Pokémon, its Psycho attacks are especially boosted in windy weather. To do this, Cresselia may have the Fairy Attack Moon Force (boosted in cloudy weather) or the Ice Attack Aurora Ray (boosted in snow). Your Beetle attackers are boosted in rainy weather, and your Unlight and Spirit attackers are boosted in fog. However, if you want to catch Cresselia at level 25, you’ll have to face him in windy weather – but then his instant attacks will do more damage.

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps.
