PoGO – Pokémon GO: Ho-Oh as Raid Boss - Counter Guide

Early in January 2021, Ho-Oh will pay another visit to the raids of Pokémon Go and can be fought on the Tier 5 difficulty. In our guide, we’ll tell you which pocket monsters are the best way to counter the Pokémon of the types Fire and Flight – and, of course, the perfect 100% IV value that Ho-Oh has in the best case.

Update from December 24, 2020: Ho-Oh is fluttering back into Pokémon Go’s Tier 5 Raids from January 1, 2021 at 10:00 PM until January 5, 2021 at 10:00 AM. If you’re lucky, you’ll even come across an iridescent specimen! So if you want to snag one, be prepared to battle Ho-Oh with the perfect counter Pokémon. Since our last update in December 2019, the overview hasn’t really changed much though; Rameidon and Despotar are still your weapons of choice. But at least a Mega Pokémon is making its presence known! As usual, we haven’t included any Crypto Pokémon in the list, because they become very expensive to level up.

Original news from December 21, 2019: The creators of Pokémon Go use the game’s Raids not only to unleash new Pokémon on players, but also to bring back classics from older generations of the game. This is what happens every year with the legendary Ho-Oh from Gen 2, which can currently be found in Tier 5 Raids spawning in arenas from December 20, 2019 at 10 p.m. until December 23, 2019 at 10 p.m. alongside Lugia and Viridium. We tell you in our guide the best counter Pocket Monsters with the corresponding attacks with which you can defeat Ho-Oh – and which CP Ho-Oh has for a perfect 100% IV value.

Pokémon Go: Ho-Oh as a Raid Boss

As mentioned, Ho-Oh is a legendary Pokémon of the 2nd game generation and a pocket monster of the types Fire and Flight. Therefore, you should take full advantage of its double weakness against Rock-type attacks. Ho-Oh has 45,702 CP if you want to face it in the Raid. Because of his types, Ho-Oh gets boosted in windy and sunny weather, and then his possible attacks Firestorm (Fire/Charging Attack) and Solar Beam (Plant/Charging Attack) do more damage in the sun, and Special Sensor (Psycho/Instant Attack) and Nosedive (Flight/Charging Attack) do more damage in the wind. If it’s snowing, Ho-Oh’s possible instant attack Steel Wings makes more of a splash. On the other hand, it’s best to attack in partly cloudy weather, because rock attacks do more damage then, and water and electric attacks are boosted in rainy weather. Of course, if you want a level 25 Ho-Oh, you’ll have to approach the raid boss when it’s sunny or windy. The authors of Pokémon Go Hub recommend the following attackers:

Pokémon Go: Catch Ho-Oh

If you have successfully completed the battle against Ho-Oh and have the chance to banish the pocket monster into your Pokéball, then Ho-Oh has 2,207 CP at level 20 with 100% IV values. If Ho-Oh is boosted to level 25 in sunny or windy weather, then it will have 2,759 CP at perfect 100% IV values. We wish you good luck in your hunt!

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events).
