PoGO – Pokémon GO: How the new rating system works (Guide)

Niantic has given Pokémon GO a new rating system that allows players to have their Pokémon checked by their team leaders. The latter assess the selected Pokémon and distribute a star rating.

Trainers have long been able to have their Pokémon rated by their team leaders in Pokémon GO. Until now, however, this rating only consisted of a short comment that was relatively general and provided little information about the actual value of a Pokémon.

That has since changed (via Pokemongohub): As part of a recent update, Niantic has revised Pokémon GO’s rating system and replaced it with a star rating. Depending on how well the Pokémon performs, it gets no, one, two or three stars according to its stats.

These stars correspond to the IV rating of your Pokémon:

Zero stars = 0 – 48.9 percent IV
One star = 51.1 – 64.4 percent IV
Two stars = 66.7 – 80 percent IV
Three stars = 82.2 – 97.8 percent IV

As you can see, the new system is much more player-friendly and makes it much easier to determine the value of your Pokémon than before, without having to go through the hassle of finding third-party resources. Especially handy: You can also filter your Pokémon list by stars. To do this, enter the number of stars (0-4) plus the “*” symbol in the search bar in the Pokémon menu so that the game shows you all Pokémon with the respective star rating. You can also narrow down your search by type. For example, if you enter 2*&flight, you will see all your flight Pokémon with a 2-star rating.

You will see, in addition to your Pokémon’s overall star rating, three bars that indicate your Pokémon’s Attack, Defense, and KP. Depending on how far each bar is filled, your Pokémon has a more or less high IV value:

0-1 bars = 0 – 5 IV
2 bars = 6 – 10 IV
3 bars = 11 – 15 IV

Last but not least, you have the option to speed up the ratings and switch between Pokémon by simply swiping left or right on the screen. This will give you direct access to the rating of the Pokémon listed next in your Pokémon collection. This also works if you have already filtered your Pokémon by star rating.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
