PoGO – Pokémon GO: How to defeat Tohaido in Solo Raid (Guide)

If you have a strong team of Pokémon, you can take on the ultimate challenge in Pokémon GO: mastering Raid battles solo. In the case of Tohaido, a Tier 3 raid boss, a particularly beginner-friendly version of the solo raid is available, where you can earn your first spurs. In our guide, we’ll tell you how to optimize your chances against Tohaido and what you need to keep in mind when soloing.

Solo raids in Pokémon GO are among the very special challenges that you can only pass with proper preparation. In the case of Tohaido, a Pokémon of the Water and Unlight types, you will be presented with a Tier 3 Raid Boss, which is an excellent introduction to the world of Solo Raids. To make sure that this introduction doesn’t end in a frustrating defeat, we have summarized some tips for you based on an article from Pokemongohub, which should help you have a successful fight against Tohaido.

As already mentioned, Tohaido is a Pokémon of the Water and Unlight type. It is therefore sensitive to Beetle, Electric, Plant, Fairy, and Fighting type attacks, which is why you should use appropriate Pocket Monsters of these types in the Raid against Tohaido. Tohaido has 13989 CP in the raid and comes with 1134 Fang CP at level 20 without weather boost and 1418 Fang CP with weather boost at level 25. Tohaido’s attacks benefit from foggy and rainy weather. Furthermore, due to its extremely low defense stats, Tohaido should be relatively easy to defeat with the appropriate team of Pokémon. Make sure you’re at least level 25 before attacking Tohaido, and you should have no problems.

Tohaido uses a set of the following potential attacks in battle:

Waterfall (normal attack, water type).
Hydropump (charged attack, water type)
Bite (normal attack, unlight type)
Crusher (charged attack, Unlight type)
Poison Fang (charged attack, type Poison)

You have an easy game with Torhaido if the Pokémon uses the attacks Bite and Poison Fang in the Raid. The latter is one of the weakest charging attacks and can only get a plant Pokémon into trouble. On the other hand, the combination of Waterfall and Hydro Pump or Crusher can make you sweat. Here you should rely on Pokémon like Kapilz, among others, which take less damage from these attacks.

To succeed in the Raid against Tohaido, due to its double Water/Unlight type, it is best to rely on the following Pokémon of the type Electric, Fighting and Plant to maximize your chances in the solo Raid:

Raikou (Electric) with Thunder Shock (Electric) and Surge (Electric).
Zapdos (Electro) with Charge Beam (Electro) and Thunder Bolt (Electro)
Blitza (Electro) with Thunder Shock (Electro) and Thunder Bolt (Electro)
Kapilz (Plant/Combat) with Counter (Combat) and Blast (Combat)
Haryama (Combat) with Counter (Combat) and Blast (Combat)
Machomei (Combat) with Counter (Combat) and Blast (Combat)
Skaraborn (Combat) with Counter (Combat) and Close Combat (Combat)
Mewtu (Psycho) with Psycho Blade (Psycho) and Focus Strike (Combat)
Bisaflor (Plant) with Razor Leaf (Plant) and Flora Statue (Plant)
Kokowei (Plant) with Bullet Seed (Plant) and Solar Beam (Plant)

When using Kokowei, keep in mind that it takes more damage against Unlight attacks. it takes more damage – so use this Pokémon wisely, even if it has very strong attacks against Tohaido. As an alternative to the Pokémon mentioned above, you can also use the following weaker monsters if your Pokémon team doesn’t allow for the above suggestions:

Sarzenia (Plant/Poison) with Acid (Poison) and Solar Beam (Plant).
Ampharos (Electro) with Charge Beam (Electro) and Lightning Cannon (Electro)
Groudon (Ground) with Clay Shot (Ground) and Solar Beam (Plant)
Scherox (Beetle/Steel) with Anger Blade (Beetle) and Cross Scissors (Beetle)

When fighting Tohaido, in addition to his attacks, you must also consider the following weather effects resulting from Tohaido’s dual type:

Sunny weather: THE attacks of your Plant-type Pokémon are stronger.
Partly cloudy weather has no effect.
Cloudy Weather: Your Fighting and Fairy-type Pokémon’s attacks are stronger, plus Tohaido’s Poison Fang does more damage.
Windy weather has no effect.
Rainy Weather: Your Beetle and Electric Pokémon’s attacks are boosted, plus Tohaido’s Water attacks do more damage.
Foggy Weather: Tohaido’s Unlight attacks deal more damage.
Snow has no effect.

To maximize your chances against Tohaido, you should consider the weather conditions, but you don’t have to take them into account to defeat the raid boss if you have a viable Pokémon team. You should also boost your team with candies and stardust before the battle to best prepare them for the raid.
