During the last Community Day, Pokémon GO players were able to catch the Pokémon Karnimani particularly often and evolve it into an Impergator with the attack Aqua Howitzer. But what is Impergator with this special attack actually good for?

Pokémon GO’s Community Day in January is over – if you’re a serious trainer in the mobile game, you’ve probably caught a lot of Karnimanis and evolved at least one of them into Impergator so it can learn the special attack Aqua Howitzer. However, anyone who currently owns an Impergator with Aqua Howitzer is faced with a burning question: What is this Pokémon actually good for in the Pokémon GO meta? Pokémon GO – Impergator with Aquahowitz in PvE

If we want to assess how Impergator does with Aqua Howitzer in PvE, we need to look at the attack itself on the one hand, and analyze those Water Pokémon that currently dominate the meta on the other. First of all, Aquahaubitze is a dual charge attack that has over 90 base power points, a cooldown of 1.9 seconds, and the shortest damage output window in the entire game at 0.5 seconds.

That doesn’t sound bad in principle. However, a look at the DPS Impergator achieves with the moveset of Cascade and Aqua Howitzer shows that it gets the short end of the stick in neutral battle situations compared to various other Water Pokémon. In terms of DPS, Impergator is just behind Garados – the latter looks weaker against rock attacks, but unlike Impergator, scores highly in defending against plant attacks.

In a DPS comparison with other Water Pokémon that can use Aqua Howitzer, Impergator does come out ahead of Turtok. However, Impoleon and Sumpex remain ahead of Impergator – not to mention the two legendary Pokémon Kyogre and Palkia. Therefore, Kyogre remains the best water Pokémon in the game so far.

Things don’t really look any better for Impergator in the Raid context either. It is true that the Pokémon deals particularly effective damage to the steel/fire Pokémon Heatran with its water attacks. However, it is still significantly behind other Heatran counters such as Kyogre, Rizeros, or Machomei in terms of battle duration to victory and only ranks 12th here (under neutral battle conditions). Impergator therefore works at best as a substitute in Raids, unless you have a better Pokémon at your disposal.

Pokémon GO – Impergator with Aqua Howitzer in PvP

Impergator, on the other hand, looks much more advantageous in the PvP context. Because Impergator’s best normal attack Aquacnare is a Legacy Move and therefore Aquacnare cannot be combined with Aquahowitz, you instead rely on Kaskade in combination with Aquahaubitze.

While Turtok is currently the ultimate water Pokémon in the Super League, Impergator can now compete with the first generation Pokémon in combination with Aquahubitze. This is because Impergator has a higher TDO and, like Turtok, can use Ice Beam as a second charge attack to fight off the hated Plant Pokémon.

Alternatively, Impergator is also worthwhile as a niche team member because it can combine the two Unlight attacks Bite and Crunch with Aqua Howitzer. This makes it suitable for a battle against Psycho or Spirit Pokémon – but only for this, because otherwise the attack values of the two Unlight attacks are too weak.

In addition, you can also bring Impergator to the CP level of the Ultra League much cheaper and faster: Impergator reaches the required CP level at level 33, while you have to level up Turtok to level 40. The low level also means that Impergator is definitely better off in the Super League than in the Ultra League.

All in all, we can conclude: Impergator with Aqua Howitzer is mainly suitable as an alternative to Turtok in the lowest PvP League. In Raids, you can place the Water Pokémon on the bench at most.
