Update from June 1, 2022: In the Tier 5 Raids of Pokémon Go, Kyogre is currently hatching from the wobbly egg and you can not only fight it, but with luck also get it as a Shiny. Kyogre will remain in the raids until June 7, 2022, and will also be the star of the legendary raid hour on June 1, 2022 (i.e. today) between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. Original news from January 15, 2018: Last week, Niantic unlocked the legendary water Pokémon Kyogre as part of a new Tier 5 Raid. Trainers can therefore currently venture into battle against the monster, which has 49,671 WP and is best countered with Pokémon of the type Electric or Plant. To give you the best possible chances against Kyogre, we’ll give you a number of tips in our guide based on an article from Pokemongohub to help you fight the water Pokémon. By the way, the Pokémon GO community currently assumes that Kyogre will be followed by Rayquaza, then Registeel, Regirock and Regice, and finally Latias and Latios.

To have a real chance against Kyogre in the raid, you should compete with at least three to six players – as was previously the case with the other legendary raids in Pokémon GO. Kyogre relies on a combination of the following water, ice, and electric attacks in battle:

– Cascade (Water type)

– Hydropump (Water type)

– Blizzard (Ice type)

– Thunder (Electric type)

You should be especially wary of Kyogre’s Blizzard. In addition, rainy weather strengthens Kyogre’s attacks – but it also has a higher battle power if you catch it (maximum 2,351 without weather effects, maximum 2,939 with rain). Because Kyogre is of the Water Pokémon type, your best bet for countering Pokémon is to use Plant or Electric Pokémon. You have the best chance of winning with the following companions on your side:

– Raikou with “Thunder Shock” and “Surge” (the best counter overall with Elevoltek).
– Elevoltek with “Thunder Shock” and “Surge” (overall best counter with Raikou)
– Magnezone with “Spark Jump” and “Surge
– Luxtra with “Sparkle” and “Surge” (slower attack than the first two)
– Zapdos with “Thunder Shock” and “Thunder Bolt” (good damage, but can’t withstand “Blizzard”)
– Roserade with “Razor Blade” and “Solar Beam” (Roserade offers more DPS than Bisaflor, but doesn’t use Roserade against “Blizzard”)
– Bisaflor with “Tendril Blow” and “Flora Statue” (can take more damage, do not use against “Blizzard”)

– Folipurba with “Razor Blade” and “Leaf Blade
– Kapilz with “Bullet Seed” and “Shrubbery
– ALoLa Kokowei with “Bullet Seed” and “Solar Beam

The safest way to go against Kyogre with all movesets is to counter with Raikou, Elevoltek, Magnezone, and Luxtra. Zapdos and Blitza also work well, but are weaker overall. If you encounter a Kyogre with Blizzard, you’re best off with a team of Electric Pokémon, because Kyogre can wipe out your Plant Pokémon with one attack each with Blizzard. Without “Blizzard,” however, the aforementioned Plant Pokémon are definitely a decent option.

The most appealing battle against Kyogre is in rainy weather. While rain does boost Kyogre’s attacks, it also makes it more vulnerable to Electro attacks. Also, you can only catch it with the best possible stats when it’s raining. For the battle itself, clear weather also proves to be favorable, because then your plant attacks are stronger. However, avoid attacking Kyogre when it’s snowing, because Kyogre’s “Blizzard” attacks will be especially hard on you.

Kyogre’s catch rates vary between two percent (normal, no curveball, no berry) and 15.73 percent (excellent, curveball, golden Himmih berry). However, because Kyogre stands far away from the player and also moves from left to right, it is especially difficult to catch Kyogre via curveball. Nevertheless, we wish you success and good catching luck.

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
