Just in time for Pokémon Day, it’s that time again: Pokémon GO players can purchase the boxes in the ingameshop at special prices as part of a sale. We explain when the purchase is worth it.
It’s box sale time again! Pokémon Day replaces the Valentine’s Day event and, appropriately enough, brings new boxes with new content to the Pokémon GO in-game store. Once again, the boxes are available in three versions, namely as a special box for 480 coins, as a super box for 780 coins and as a hyper box for 1,480 coins. For the first time in a long time, Niantic is focusing more on raids in terms of content. As a result, the boxes lag slightly behind previous sales in terms of overall savings potential, but still offer a good price-performance ratio under certain conditions.
In detail, you will get the following content from the individual boxes (changes to the previous sale are shown in brackets behind the respective item):
- Special box (price 480 coins): four raid passes (+1), one incubator (-1), three star pieces (+3).
- Superbox (price 780 coins): six raid passes (+3), two super brooders (-2), four star pieces (+4), three lucky eggs (-1)
- Hyperbox (price 1,480 coins): 15 raid passes (+5), six super brooders (-4), eight star pieces (+8), seven smokes (+7)
Unlike the Valentine’s Event boxes, none of the current boxes contain lure modules. The boxes save you money compared to buying the individual items in the in-game store:
- Special Box: 220 coins (31.4 percent) total – if you focus on Hatcheries and Raid Passes, 70 coins (12.7 percent)
- Superbox: 609 coins (43.8 percent) total – with focus on brood machines and raid passes 220 coins (22 percent)
- Hyperbox: 2,061 coins (45.1 percent) total – with focus on hatchery machines and raid passes 12,20 coins (45.1 percent)
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, you will be well served with the special box. If you are not only interested in the raid passes, but also in the spawn machines and star pieces, you won’t go wrong with buying this box. However, if you are only interested in the raid passes, you should buy them separately or get one of the other two boxes.
The Superbox is the only box in the sale that offers Lucky Eggs in combination with Hatchery Machines and Raid Passes. Although you get two more Raid Passes for the price of the box plus 20 coins, the rest of the box’s content outweighs this shortcoming – especially if you want to hatch eggs in addition to Raids.
Of all three boxes, the Hyperbox offers the best value in this sale. You get 15 raid passes with the box cheaper than if you buy the passes individually – for 15 raid passes you would actually have to pay 1,500 coins, but the box costs 20 coins less and also offers you various bonuses such as incubators, star pieces and smoke. For passionate raiders, the Hyperbox finally offers an all-round carefree package.
In addition to the three well-known boxes, a fourth box will be available during the Pokémon Day sale, which is aimed at trainers who have breeding machines in mind – the Adventure Box:
- Adventure Box (priced at 1,480 coins): five Brood Machines, eleven Super Brood Machines, eight Star Pieces, seven Smokes.
With a total value of 3,791 coins, the Adventure Box saves you a total of 2,311 coins (70 percent), or 1,470 coins (49.9 percent) if you focus solely on hatchers. If you can hardly save yourself from eggs and can’t keep up with the hatching, you should definitely not miss out on the adventure box.
All in all, the Hyperbox and Adventure Box offer the best deal if you’re after raid passes or spawn machines. If you want to save money, you can go for the special box if you can use all three items. However, if you are not interested in hatching machines and raid passes at all, it is better not to buy them – the boxes are not worth it for star pieces, smoke and lucky eggs.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events).
