The creators of Pokémon Go from Niantic have announced a new event that will be held on January 24, 2021: Smoke Day with Voltilamm, Electric and Dragon Pokémon. But unfortunately, not with all Dragon Pokémon, it seems. Coveted and rare Dragon Pokémon like Milza or Kapuno are apparently not included.

The folks at Niantic have announced a new event for Pokémon Go, and it’s Smoke Day, which spotlights Voltilamm, Electric and Dragon Pokémon. This is not surprising, after all, Voltilamm is an Electric Pokémon and its second evolution Ampharos additionally becomes a Dragon. In general, for fans of Pokémon Go, Smoke Day could now actually offer the chance to get some of the rarest and most sought-after Dragon Pokémon …

Could. But it probably won’t. The rarest specimens among the dragons such as Milza and Kapuno are not further mentioned by the Niantic people in the event details of the smoke day. This is a bit disappointing. Of course, it’s still possible that the really rare dragons will make an appearance, but if they do, then only … well … very rarely.

In general, Smoke Day in Pokémon Go works as follows, based on the official info: The Smoke Day event will take place on January 24, 2021, between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. During this time, smoke will attract different types of Pokémon at specific times; this plays out as follows:

From 11:00 to 13:00: Electric Pokémon
From 13:00 to 14:00: Dragon Pokémon and Pokémon that take on the type Dragon during evolution
From 14:00 to 16:00: Electric Pokémon
From 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Dragon Pokémon and Pokémon that take on the Dragon type when evolving.

So, if anything, the community will have a chance to get Kaumalat, Kapuno and Milza from 13:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 17:00, which is only two of the total six hours of the event. However, as mentioned earlier, it’s not certain that these mon will even be part of the event. The folks from the Pokémon Go development team specify the pocket monsters that show up at the catch hours lured by smoke as follows:

In the Electric Hours, for example, you may encounter Pikachu, Magnetilo, Voltobal, Lampi, Voltilamm, Plusle, and Minun, or even Flunschlik.
Dragon Hours attract Dragon Pokémon and other Pokémon that take on the Dragon type when evolving. These include, for example, Seeper, Dratini, Voltilamm, Knacklion, Vibrava, and Wablu. With luck, even Kindwurm!

Basically, the smoke attracts mainly Voltilamm, and its second evolution Ampharos learns the attack Dragon Pulse during the event. If you’re lucky, you’ll even get a Shiny Voltilamm. So that you can hit smoke on the head without end, there’s also a bundle for 1 Pokécoin in the store for the smoke day event, which contains three smoke. In addition, the Niantic people remind you that you can currently also find Mega Ampharos in the Mega Raids.

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events).
