In Pokémon GO, your Pokémon sometimes learn attacks that are no longer available in the game after a while – the so-called legacy moves. If you let one of your Pokémon unlearn such an attack, you have no chance of getting it back, unless Niantic brings it back into the game at some point. But which legacy moves are worth keeping? We’ll answer that question here in our guide.

Legacy moves, that is, attacks that your Pokémon learned at some point but are now no longer available in the game; there are a lot of them in Pokémon GO. Some of these attacks are particularly good, others less so. But because you can’t relearn these attacks once your Pokémon has forgotten them, the question is: Which legacy moves do you really want your Pokémon to keep?

To help you answer this question, we have listed the most important and best legacy moves by Pokémon type based on an article from Pokemongohub. This list serves as a guide and is based on the current state of the Pokémon GO meta-game. If Niantic adds new attacks to the game in the long run, this may influence the meaning of the individual Legacy attacks accordingly.

By the way, if you have to choose between two Pokémon, one of which has a Legacy Attack mentioned in the list but significantly less CP than the other, you should still choose the Pokémon with the Legacy Attack. These Legacy moves outperform all other attacks to a degree that should make up for the CP weakness by a long shot.

Pokémon GO: The best standard legacy attacks

When it comes to the standard legacy attacks in Pokémon GO, you should definitely keep the following attacks:

Gengar: Dark Claw – Gengar with Dark Claw is great against Psycho-type raid bosses, so no battle team should be without it.
Dragoran: Fire Ember – Fire Ember is slightly inferior to Dragon Rod in terms of DPS, but scores high in speed.
Kokowei: Confusion – Confusion is the best standard attack for Kokowei in terms of DPS, and it plays to its strengths in the current meta.
Amoroso: Rock Throw – If you need an excellent Rock Pokémon, Amoroso’s Rock Throw outperforms even Geowaz.
Garados: Dragon Rod – With the help of the Dragon Attack Dragon Rod, the Water Pokémon Garados scores especially well in Raids against Dragon Pokémon.

Pokémon GO: The best Legacy recharge attacks

When it comes to charging attacks, you’re best off with the following Legacy moves:

Lapras: Ice Beam – Because Ice Beam has two charge bars, it’s better suited in battle than Blizzard: the likelihood that you’ll be able to use Ice Beam before Lapras is eliminated from battle is simply higher than Blizzard.
Dragoran: Dragon Claw and Draco Meteor – Dragon Claw is only slightly inferior to Rage Attack in terms of DPS, but it can be executed quickly. Draco Meteor, on the other hand, has more DPS than Rage Attack, but only one charge bar instead of Dragon Claw’s three.
Relaxo: Bodyslam – If you want to defend an arena with Relaxo, be sure to choose Bodyslam as your attack. This legacy move is difficult for your opponents to dodge, and Bodyslam is Relaxo’s best defensive attack overall.
Amoroso: Stone Hail – In terms of DPS, Stone Hail is the best dual charge rock type attack in the game, so it’s a must-have for Amoroso.

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy.
