Parallel to the Pokémon GO swap event, trainers can once again spend their game gold and real money in a box sale. However, ambitious bargain hunters should rather keep their hands off the supposedly cheap offers this time – this time, the offers are extremely disappointing compared to previous box sales. We’ll explain why this is the case now.
The Pokémon GO swap event is in full swing – and Niantic wouldn’t be Niantic if they didn’t launch a box sale in the in-game store to go with it. Compared to previous special sales, however, this sale is rather disappointing – especially compared to the offers during the Safari Zone event, the swap event sale lags behind tremendously.
Pokemongohub has highlighted why this is the case in a detailed analysis. In particular, the focus on incubators in the boxes makes people frown, especially because the boxes contain fewer incubators than the Safari Zone boxes. A look at the prices of the individual boxes of the swap event reveals the following picture (the savings are based on the price of a package with eight lucky eggs):
- Special box, 480 Pokécoins – contents: two incubators, four lucky eggs, four star pieces = savings of 36 percent.
- Super Box, 780 Pokécoins – Contents: four super incubators, six lucky eggs, six star pieces, four lure modules = savings of 57.25 percent
- Hyperbox, 1480 Pokécoins – Contents: ten Super Brooders, nine Lucky Eggs, six Premium Raid Passes, nine Lock Modules = savings 62.32 percent
At first glance, the 36 to 62.32 percent savings you’ll receive by buying the event boxes doesn’t sound so bad, does it? But the devil is in the details: During the Safari Zone event, the boxes consistently contained more hatchers, while the Hyperbox even came with twelve lucky eggs instead of nine – for the same price. Only the Superbox contained one more lucky egg during the Swap event than during the Safari event. As a result, the savings during the Safari event were significantly higher, reaching values between 49.47 percent (Special Box) and 67.11 percent (Hyperbox).
Additionally problematic in the current sale is also Niantic’s focus on spawn machines instead of raid passes: Unlike the Safari Zone event, there is currently no real reason for players to prefer Hatchery Machines over Raid Passes. As a result, the Special Box and Super Box are particularly unattractive.
Therefore, keep the following tips in mind regarding the current box sale:
- If you need brood machines, rather buy them separately and individually in the store, and definitely keep your hands off the special box.
- Buy the Super Box only if you want the Super Hatcheries and can’t afford the Hyper Box.
- If you want super spawns, the Hyperbox is your best bet.
- If you’re after Raid Passes, don’t buy the Hyperbox either and buy Raid Passes separately in the store.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events).
