Zofia Bosak is the eldest daughter of Jan Bosak, a respected former commander of the Polish special forces GROM. During the training that her father imposed on her in her spare time, she excelled with outstanding performance and learned various techniques, some of which were classified as questionable. Thanks to her exceptional attitude, she achieved the highest possible score in the GROM selection tests. Not only is she an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant and marksman, she also understands survival techniques, sabotage operations, target extraction, and field medicine. Zofia strives to be the best in every unit and is extremely focused on all her assignments. This focus allowed her to single-handedly kill hundreds of civilians during a rescue mission in Guatemala including children, to evacuate. Since then she has received numerous awards and has earned the respect of her commanding officers and comrades. Zofia is an outstanding lateral thinker who has critical, aggressive operational experience. Her track record in and out of the field is unblemished.
PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT
Specialist Zofia “Zofia” Bosak is a multifaceted person, and after a handful of meetings I’ve barely scratched the surface. So we’re going to take it slow. I have read her file – since her father was a public and powerful figure, even parts of her private history have been blurred. She was not dismissive during our session, but was… unsettled by my role. She didn’t want to be “analyzed”. Her sister, Specialist Elżbieta “Ela” Bosak, gave me the same answer.
Zofia doesn’t like to talk about herself. She also doesn’t appreciate it when other people talk about her life – especially her husband, who is also a soldier, and their daughter. She doesn’t make small talk. So the first twenty minutes of our session was rather quiet. After telling me about my own family, she shared a funny anecdote about her daughter’s morning routine. Knowing how reserved she is, I don’t want to betray her trust, so I’ll leave her out here.
She is torn between pride in her accomplishments and feeling deprived of meaningful choices. When I said that the reports painted a picture of an extraordinary person, she laughed. She said she often feels like a robot, like someone programmed her and like she’s on autopilot. Breaking through this sense of powerlessness will be crucial. […]
Zofia hasn’t gotten over her father’s death yet. She doesn’t think he committed suicide and asked if I could get the autopsy report. I’m not sure I have the connections to do this, nor do I necessarily think it’s a good idea. His absence already dominates her every thought and I’m not convinced that an answer would allow her to close the matter (which is necessary). Instead, I encouraged her to keep working to rebuild her relationship with her sister and to appreciate the close ties she has with her teammates and family.
I particularly notice that Zofia faces the unknown with complete equanimity. Whether this is due to their training or their upbringing, I cannot say. Undoubtedly, it is a valuable skill. But where there is ambivalence, there can be no joy. I wish for her that she succeeds in overcoming this condition.
