Character skins in an online game are something commonplace, but why haven’t we seen any of them in Valorant? In a recent interview, Riot answered the question.
Valorant has been officially released for three months now, and the game is doing really well in its competitive scene. In fact, at least one of the regions hosts a Valorant tournament almost every week. But wait, what does competition have to do with agent skins? These days, a lot.
In a recent interview with Dexerto, Riot Games gave some insight into why there have been so many weapon skins so far, but not one for agents:
“We don’t have any status updates to share right now. We know that agent skins are something that players have been asking for a lot. We want to make them too, and to do that we have to do our part of the careful review to figure out the best way to add them.
(…) On one side are people who really want them in our game. On the other hand, there are also a lot of players who are very concerned that agent skins might affect gameplay and the integrity of the competition, which is a very valid concern that we share. Either way, when we decide to dive into this, we want to find the right balance that feels valuable and exciting to players, but also meets our strict requirements for competitive integrity.”
Then there is always the question of whether crossovers are planned in Valorant a la Marvel x Fortnite. The devs had something to say about that as well:
“We don’t have any plans for crossovers at the moment, but we think it would be a cool idea. The same goes for any crossovers with the League of Legends universe. It’s definitely something we’re interested in, but we don’t have anything planned for that right now. We’re still in the early stages of development for our skins, so crossovers aren’t something we want to commit to yet.”
But not only weapons and agents get in other games like times a new Snstrich, with map reskins on holidays like Christmas, shine maps in other games like times in a different light. Here a fir tree, there a poinsettia. PLant you something like that in Valorant?
“Currently, we have no plans for – Season al map reskins. Our map team recently released a temporary update to Split’s Defender Spawn and Coffee Shop (on the A-Site) to highlight content releases for the Glitchpop skin line and Killjoy. We may continue to make smaller updates like these, but no massive map reskins are planned at this time.”
And finally, given the popularity of the Cosmetics we’ve seen so far, is there a particular theme/skin that has been asked about the most?
Judging by the responses from the Valorant manufacturers, the title is still very early in the development of agent skins. They haven’t committed to crossovers yet, but there could be League of Legends skins for some of the Agents in the future. While many fans would like to see agent skins in Valorant, Riot is concerned that this could affect the competitive integrity of the game, as some skins could provide an advantage in certain circumstances. Riot is trying to walk the fine line between game balance and beautiful visuals.

How to get skins in Valorant
Everyone uses the same weapons in Valorant, but that doesn’t mean every weapon has to look the same. After all, you’re going to spend a lot of time looking at your weapon, so looking at it might as well be.
Fortunately, the folks at Riot have the perfect solution for players who need to look good while shooting enemies. Skins are cosmetic add-ons that can change the physical appearance of a weapon, as well as animations and audio effects.

How do I get skins in Valorant?
Unlike other popular multi-shooter games, Valorant doesn’t have any special skins to change and customize the look of the agent – at least for now. What they do offer is a collection of skins that can change and improve the way weapons look and feel while playing the game.
They don’t necessarily improve your gameplay, but sometimes looking good is enough to win a match, right?
Spend real money
This is possibly the easiest way to get the weapon skin you want but don’t have the time to unlock. Valorant Points or VP is the premium currency used in the game to unlock agents, skins and more from the in-game store.
Here is an example of converting real money to VP on the North American server:
- $4.99 – 475 VP, no bonus VP, 475 VP total.
- $9.99 – 950 VP, 50 bonus VP, 1000 VP total
- $19.99 – 1900 VP, 150 bonus VP, 2050 total
- $34.99 – 3325 VP, 325 bonus VP, 3650 total
- $49.99 – 4750 VP, 600 bonus VP, 5350 total
- 99 $ – 9500 VP, 1500 bonus VP, 11000 total
As a frame of reference, Valorant Store Featured Collections are around 7,100 VP. Individual weapon skins are slightly less expensive and generally range from 1,775 VP to 4,350 VP each, with melee weapon skins at the higher end of the price scale.
Before you start searching for weapon skins, you should know that featured bundles change every few weeks and individual skin deals change every 24 hours. So what you see today may not be what you see tomorrow.
