The S12 (originally Saiga-12) is a semi-automatic shotgun from Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Campaign
The S12 is the standard shotgun of the mercenaries and the ISI. It is also unlocked early for the pre-mission adjustable classes, namely after you have completed Phyrrus Victory. However, it is never part of a standard class, probably because it is not used by allied factions. The S12 has a 10-round magazine from the start (14 with the magazine expansion), good damage, average range, a good rate of fire, standard recoil, and solid hip-fire accuracy, making it mostly one-hit kills in close combat. Outside of melee, the weapon’s rate of fire ensures that you don’t actually have to do much to get a kill, just shoot it several times.
Multiplayer
The S12 is unlocked at the same time as the class editor, at level 4. Unlike the Remington 870 MCS, however, you have to activate it with an unlock token first. The S12 has 10 rounds in the magazine, a very high rate of fire (much higher than the semi-auto shotguns from the earlier games), mediocre hip-fire accuracy, and a solid range for a shotgun. Altogether, this ensures that you’ll quickly run out of ammo for the S12 if you don’t use the attachments properly. Since the gun also takes quite a long time to reload, you’re lost in many situations without a quick magazine or magazine extension. Since the two attachments are almost the same, it doesn’t really matter what you choose because they are both good in their own way. On a small map, the magazine extension would be advantageous because you will most likely encounter multiple enemies, on a larger map, the fast magazine is the best choice so that you are always ready to go again immediately after a firefight.
Another attachment that the S12 benefits from extremely are the long barrel. This attachment changes the performance of the S12 so amazingly that you can already say that a semi-automatic shotgun shouldn’t get that far at all. It also conserves reloading and ammo because you kill more often with one hit, so you don’t have to blast out so many shots. This is effective even at ranges where the S12 would otherwise be miserable. The rear sight is questionable because the S12 is a shotgun and you’ll probably be doing most of your firing from the hip anyway. Also, the rear sight and front sight are open and clear, actually already too clear for the short distances you should be using the gun. Of all the shotguns, the S12 is probably the best choice for “dominating” the enemy team because you can’t fire all the others without stopping. Two of them need a pump after each shot (Remington 870 MCS, KSG) and the other needs to be cycled halfway through the magazine (M1216).
Survival Combat
The S12 appears on all maps in Survival Combat and costs 950 points at the mystery box. It has the same damage and magazine size as its multiplayer partner. It’s not an effective shotgun, however, as it takes several hits to take out a zombie from round 10 onwards. With a total of just 40 rounds, the eternal reload time, and the average damage, it’s not really a recommendable weapon.
Punching the S12 gives it 50 rounds of spare ammo and a damage increase. A second time at the pack-a-punch machine adds a random attachment like the reflex sight or the fast magazine.
