The Valkyrie Rockets, originally known as Archangel, are a 7-launcher series (6 with Hardliner) from Call of Duty: Black Ops. In Call of Duty: Black Ops II they appear as Valkyrie launchers.

Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The Valkyrie launcher is a shoulder launcher that the player fires with a scope and then controls the missile depending on what target it should fly to. It is much harder to steer than a long-range missile because the latter can move forward, backward, and even stop.

The launched missile can fly for 15 seconds, or 5 if you press the thrust. It can explode anywhere the player wants. Sometimes it works to fly straight up into the sky and then drop the rocket, but you can’t fly too high because the signal won’t last forever. If the rocket gets too far away, the player loses control, puts the telescope to the side and the rocket goes up.

The missile can be fired in flight by pressing the shoot button. Even though it sometimes comes across as waste, this can be useful when you’re passing an enemy and don’t have time to turn around.

Campaign

The Valkyrie missile can be seen twice in the campaign. The first time you see it is in the SOG mission when the team is unable to prevent the launch and therefore has to use the Valkyrie missiles to get the Soyuz-2 out of the sky. At that time, the rockets were still in development, as they were described there as a prototype.

In the Redemption mission, Mason uses the Valkyrie missiles to destroy the Hi-8 Hip helicopters. If you can get both helicopters out of the sky with one rocket, you even get an achievement.

Multiplayer

Once the player has achieved a kill streak of seven, he gets a drop marker, to the location of which then comes a supply helicopter with a box containing a launcher with two Valkyrie missiles. These can’t stop or turn around once fired but can be made faster with a boost. If the missile hits a wall or other solid object, it explodes, sometimes not killing an enemy. You can use it to eliminate enemy objects in the air as well as enemy players. Without the speed boost, the missile flies quite slowly and it takes some time for it to reach the height of a spy plane. Weapon fire can be used to take a Valkyrie missile out of the air. If the player changes weapons or dies, the launcher is lost. In multiplayer, this launched series is quite unpopular because, firstly, it is quite difficult to control, and, secondly, in most cases, you only get two kills, although you have to do seven yourself. A good tactic is to use the Valkyrie like a Predator missile, so get it in the air first so you have a good view of the whole map.

In terms of damage, the Valkyrie missile has an impact radius of 7.5 meters and does 400 damage in the center and 100 at the outer edges, meaning any enemy within the radius that doesn’t have a Bulletproof Vest dies instantly. A player playing with a Bulletproof Vest must be closer than 2.85 meters.

Although it is uncommon, Valkyrie missiles can be targeted and shot. However, you shouldn’t worry about that when using the launch series, because thanks to the speed and the one kill the missile makes, it’s usually not common to shoot down a Valkyrie. Still, you shouldn’t fly past surface-to-air guns, because they also target the Valkyrie.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

The Valkyrie launcher appears in the Pyrrhic Victory mission, where Alex Mason uses it to take down an enemy helicopter from the sky. Unlike most of the other weapons in Black Ops II, it isn’t available later in the modifiable classes before the start of each mission.

Info

  • Originally you only needed five kills for the Valkyrie missiles and they were called “Archangel”, but that was scrapped.
  • The accompanying original icon glowed white, but that didn’t make it into the final version either.
  • The launcher of the missiles seems to be a modified Strela-3 with a control device. Before the player can pick up the weapon in Redemption, only the Strela glows gold, but not the associated control device.
  • Although the Valkyrie appears in the campaign on the Wii version, it does not appear in multiplayer.
  • If the player is killed at the exact moment he fires the missile, he loses control and it flies mindlessly straight ahead.
  • The Valkyrie missile can destroy enemy helicopter gunships, attack helicopters, supply helicopters, spy planes, and counterspy planes with one hit.
  • The actual missile that comes out of the launcher is wider and longer than the launcher itself.
  • Valkyrie missiles can be broken by players from your own team.
  • If two players have Valkyrie missiles, they can crash into each other and explode.
  • In the above mission in Black Ops II, Hudson calls the Valkyrie missiles TGM.

Call of Duty

The Call of Duty series has existed since 2003 and in addition to various spin-offs, including for the handheld systems Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, 14 major titles of the series have now been released. Ever since the first part of the series, great emphasis has been placed on the online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player campaign, which is also reflected in the development of the shooter series. Since the first Call of Duty, World at War, which was developed exclusively by Treyarch, each part also included cooperative challenges that you could play together with friends. The latest installment, Call of Duty: World War II, also features an extended multiplayer mode that puts you and your friends in the combat zones and famous battles of World War II. Using the divisions, you’ll be able to choose between the deadly sniper and the brute armored division and support your comrades in battle. In addition, World War II also has a zombie mode “Nazi Zombies”, as in its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. Face the monsters of the Third Reich and win glory and honor.
