Regardless of whether you want to quest or “grind” in World of Warcraft Classic, you should choose a zone where the monsters are neither too strong nor too weak to progress quickly. In this guide you’ll find all the classic zones with levels in a clear form.
For most players, questing in World of Warcraft Classic takes up almost all of their time during the leveling phase. While you don’t get huge amounts of experience points per quest, if you tackle them together they are far more rewarding than just “grinding” mobs. Each area in WoW Classic (buy now) and the quests there are tailored to players of a certain level. Therefore, for optimal progress, it is important to constantly move on and complete new quests with the appropriate level. Due to the division of loot into groups, the quests are best suited for solo players or duos. If you’re in a smaller group of two or three, “grinding” mobs in the wild is also a good alternative. While this can get boring quickly, it helps bridge the gap between one zone and the next if you’re stuck somewhere with too few quests.
Below is a list of all the classic WoW zones, based on their average levels pre-Cataclysm. It’s a good idea to move on immediately if your level allows it, rather than doing unfinished quests in a zone you’ve long outgrown. Monsters and quests that are (significantly) lower than your character level give significantly less experience points. Rarely are there enough quests in an area to get from one end of the level range to the other. So be prepared to move around quite a bit.

What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
