If you are looking for a group for the dungeon Blackrock Depths in WoW Classic, you should not only have a lot of time, but also know exactly what is hidden behind the umpteen designations such as “Arena/Prison Run”, “Emperor Run” or “Lava Run”. We’ll tell you what the BRT types mean.
In the last three days I had always been looking for a group for the dungeon Blackrock Depths for my rogue in WoW (buy it now) Classic. Besides experience, gold and great loot, I also wanted to thin out my bulging quest log there – more than ten missions for “BRT” had to be done, after all.
But it’s not so easy to find the right group for such an undertaking in Schwarzfels. If you look at the usual requests in the official “Search for Group” chat, you’ll find a lot of BRT groups there. Some want to do an “Arena/Prison Run”, others are looking for comrades-in-arms for an “Emperor Run” or “Lava Run”. The reason for this is obvious: the dungeon is huge, there are numerous bosses waiting there, and it takes a long time to clear the instance completely. Many players who only have individual quests or bosses on their to-do list therefore concentrate on certain areas of the Blackrock Depths. Below, we’ll tell you what’s usually behind the main BRT types.
Blackrock Depths – “Full Run”.
Let’s start with probably the most self-explanatory variant of BRT runs: In a “Full Run”, the group wants to clear almost the entire dungeon in order to take as many bosses as possible. This costs a lot of time, of course, but also brings a lot of experience and a lot of loot, and everyone in the group can also do open quests.
Blackrock Depths – “Quest Run
Since the quests in Blackrock Depths lead to pretty much every area of the huge dungeon, this variant often resembles a “full run”, even though – depending on the task – you can skip certain areas or even visited areas where there is actually no important boss. In some cases, only groups are sought for certain quests. On the Alliance side, for example, the quest line leads to the Blackrock Depths via Onyxia.
Blackrock Depths – “Emperor/Imp Run”.
Because of the great loot, many players have their sights set on Emperor Dagran Thaurissan, the final boss of the dungeon. In this first variant, the group wants to reach the Emperor in time, but still take some important bosses. Therefore, it turns left right away in the entrance area, then right, possibly dodging the Ring of Law (arena), to then enter the garrison area, thanks to the key, Shadow Forge or a Rogue Lock skill (250). First, often head towards General Zornessmith, then take the direct path through the inn, kill the seven dwarves, and finally get to the final boss via the Lyceum.
Blackrock Depths – “Lava Run”.
The “Lava Run” is a shorter version of the “Emperor Run” as you use a shortcut through the lava to jump over many enemies. You enter the fiery liquid near Lord Incendius. You will eventually come back out in front of the Lyceum. CAUTION: Only if you jump through the lava and have the right timing, you won’t receive any damage. This way you can get to the Emperor especially fast and/or also complete the Molten Core prequest in a short time: Coordination with the Core .
Blackrock Depths – “Arena/Prison or Arena/Angerforge Run”.
A particularly popular variant is focused only on the beginning of the dungeon. In either case, all of these groups take the random bosses in the Ring of Law (Arena). In addition, Lord Roccor and Interrogator Gerstahn and/or General Zornesschmied often come along. The advantages of this variant are that you can do several runs in a row in a short time, and characters with comparatively low levels can also take part in these runs (General Zornesschmied has the highest level, 57).
Until recently, there were also so-called “torch runs”, for which classes with high area damage were especially sought after. This involved constantly bombing away the fast spawning groups from the Lyceum, which promised a lot of experience for a while. In the meantime, however, Blizzard is said to have significantly reduced the experience values for these enemies.
By the way, I actually found a group for a “quest run” last night. We mastered all the missions, bagged a lot of great loot and there were a lot of experience points and gold pieces on top. But the night was very short again 😉

Getting Started

- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
