For a few days now, the honor system has been creating a framework for PvP in WoW Classic. In the absence of battlefields, the players in the open world pounce on the followers of the enemy faction. This isn’t much fun on many PvP servers due to the unequal faction ratio. But there are also realms where the old vanilla enthusiasm is revived.
A look at the official WoW Classic forum is enough to see that the start of Phase 2 and the newly introduced honor system are heating up . In fact, recently there were many more threads in which players let their frustration run free, but they were summarized in a collection thread Feedback on Phase 2 – GZ on the server takeover with now almost 2,000 comments.
Probably the most frequently mentioned reason for displeasure: on most Classic PvP servers, the faction ratio is extremely one-sided, at the same time there are many more players than in vanilla WoW on the realms. The result: the outnumbered faction is downright hunted down in every high-tier zone. No flight master is safe. Every ride into Blackrock, to Stratholme, Scholomance or Dire Maul becomes a dangerous run of the gauntlet – including several visits to the spirit healer. As a supporter of the outnumbered faction on the affected servers, you can currently actually forget about normal quests or farming.
As cool as back then in vanilla
It may not be any consolation to the players who are suffering from the situation described above, but I would like to at least mention that there are also servers with completely different, very positive experiences. For example, my villain Creep hangs around on the PvE server Razorfen, and there have been a few battles there in the last few days, especially in the area between Tarrens Mühle and Süderstade, where the old vanilla enthusiasm came back – only with more frames per second.
On Thursday evening, for example, several raid groups from the Horde and Alliance met in the foothills to give each other a good time in the moody Gezerge. Sometimes we drove the Lion Banner fighters back to Southshore, sometimes we were pushed to the mill. It wasn’t until 11 p.m. that we slowly gained the upper hand. Despite some lag at peak times, it was just great fun with winners on both sides. The next fights broke out in the zone the very next morning.
No solution for PvP servers in sight
In my opinion, anyone who decided to launch a PvP server and is now suffering from the situation on the server should realize that Blizzard cannot just shake a solution out of the blue and suddenly everything is fine. On the contrary, the situation tends to get worse, as experience has shown that such an imbalance causes more and more supporters of the outnumbered faction to stay away from the server.
It also doesn’t matter that Blizzard is largely to blame for this situation with the drop by drop Classic servers. But the community also bears some of the blame. There were several opportunities to switch from full servers to less populated ones. Some players took the opportunity, many stayed. And that despite the fact that the queues around the launch and sometimes for quite a while afterwards cost gaming fun and nerves. Although it quickly became clear that things would get really uncomfortable on the busiest servers once Blizzard completely disabled layering. And even then, when you could foresee that a) the current content will be through quickly for many players, b) many players are also looking forward to the introduction of the honor system and c) the faction ratio on most PvP servers is so unbalanced that phase 2 will cause a lot of tears. All of these warnings have been read numerous times in various places over the last few weeks. In many cases, however, there was no change.
The problem now is that Blizzard would now have to make very blatant adjustments to defuse the situation. Drastic measures such as forced transfers of characters, transfer phases from PvP to PvE servers for just one faction or a significant adjustment to the honor system, none of this will happen. On the other hand, what I don’t think will help is the quick release of phase 3. Blackwing Lair will certainly not keep PvE enthusiasts as busy as it was in vanilla WoW. There are many free evenings that can be filled with PvP. At the same time, the realm pools will most likely ensure that there will be waiting times for battleground invites on both sides. Waiting times that want to be used efficiently with a view to how the honor system works. In addition, there are so many players on the servers that you will continue to encounter supporters of the enemy faction at important hubs. Unfair Open PvP will remain a problem on PvP servers.
From my point of view, affected players only have three options: give up classic, start over on another server or – as soon as/if possible – leave the old realm with the next server transfer period.

Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
