Since Blizzcon 2017, it’s official: after many squabbles about the private server “Nostalrius”, Blizzard is releasing the original version of its popular massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft for all “classic” fans and also the newcomers who keep coming back to their own official servers. As a virtual ticket holder, you’ll be able to play the World of Warcraft Classic demo developed for Blizzcon 2018 for the first time in November from the comfort of your own home, alongside local Blizzcon attendees . As Blizzard announced this week, the Westfall alliance zone and the Barrensbe horde zone will be testable. To mark the occasion, today we’ve uploaded 40 more images to our annotated WoW Classic Mega Gallery, attached to this special below, to get you in the mood. On February 11, 2005 – in the USA even on November 23, 2004 – Blizzard’s most successful game to date, World of Warcraft , saw the light of day. At that time, no one could have imagined the immense success and, above all, the huge influence that the massively multiplayer online game would have. Numerous imitators followed over the years, but none could even come close to matching or surpassing the fascinating, multi-faceted world of Warcraft. In 2018, the seventh – in words: seventh – expansion for the game will be released, further proof of the unwavering interest in role-playing games on a grand scale.
World of Warcraft will be 13 years old in November 2017. This means that anyone who started playing as a teenager is already approaching 30, probably has a family, and often wishes to turn back the wheel of time to experience the “good old days” at least for a few hours. This wish will soon come true, because Blizzard announced at Blizzcon 2017 the launch of “classic” servers, where World of Warcraft – with some necessary technical adjustments – can be (re)experienced in its original glory.
However, due to the scope of the project, it will take some time to get there, so we thought we’d do like good old Diablo community manager Geoff Fraizer did before the release of Diablo 3: he still has a long time until launch, teaser images of the third part were posted with great regularity until it finally appeared. Until the release of the “WoW Classic” server, we will continue to post images here for you from our huge Classic screenshot collection, which will revive the past days and also serve as a reference when Blizzard launches the new edition.

What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
