In a new survey, Blizzard presented what fresh Classic Era servers for WoW could look like. Many of the possible adjustments sound good, but for Classic fan Karsten there is a big “BUT”. What do you think: How well will fresh Classic servers be accepted by the community?
Blizzard managers recently sent a survey to selected WoW fans . This time the questions are about fresh servers for WoW Classic where all players start at level 1. The questions indicate how the implementation of the servers could look like, and in fact some of the planned changes read very well. There’s only one problem ….
Fresh Classic servers inc.!
The idea of offering fresh Classic servers alongside the existing Classic Era servers came directly from the community. Or more precisely: from the private server community. There it was quite common to start over and over again on new servers – similar to, for example, the – Season s of Diablo 3. The attraction is to build a new server community together with other players, to develop alongside other vanilla Enthusiastic about opening up the content again and mastering the challenges a little more efficiently or with special adjustments (e.g. a higher level of difficulty). For these players, Kel’Thuzad in Naxxramas is not the ultimate goal, but the journey.
Due to persistent questions on the subject, Blizzard had already stated months ago that the developers wanted to deal with the topic of “fresh classic servers” as soon as the launch of TBC Classic was over. At the latest with the latest survey, it seems certain that in addition to Shadowlands, Classic Era (as of Classic Phase 6) and Burning Crusade Classic, fresh Classic servers will soon be part of the WoW subscription. Later there could be more new additions like Wrath of the Lich King Classic and fresh TBC Classic servers. So if there isn’t something for everyone…
Fresh classic, better classic
With the fresh Classic servers, however, the developers do not want to offer the same experience that we already had with the first WoW Classic cycle. According to the motto #somechanges, there should be adjustments that could have a positive impact on the gaming experience. In the course of the survey, Blizzard also reveals what changes these could be in detail: more experience points when leveling, no world buffs in raid instances, an increased debuff upper limit for bosses, an increased level of difficulty in dungeons and raid instances, summoning stones all dungeon entrances, a barbershop for character customization, the original Alterac Valley design, increased gold and item drop rates and even a black market auction house for cosmetic items are up for discussion.
Some of these points specifically eliminate weaknesses in vanilla WoW or slightly increase comfort. Others ensure that you receive gold, experience and loot more efficiently. The latter changes could come into play if Blizzard releases the six content phases on the fresh Classic servers much faster than was the case on the first realms. There was also a point for this in the survey: do we want a classic cycle of 22 months, 12 months or 6 months? In all these cases, there should then be another “fresh start” of the classic server, which brings us back to the Diablo 3 – Season s, which are now in their 24th round.
Sounds great, it’s late
Most of the points just mentioned sound very exciting to my ears (apart from the black market auction house, no Orc needs that) and could actually enrich a new Classic experience. For me personally, however, these fresh Classic servers are coming too late. In the coming months, I’m more than busy with Burning Crusade Classic and Shadowlands. Once the Sunwell Plateau is mastered, I’ll probably be leaning towards the Wrath of the Lich King Classic. After all, I’ve only had my dose of classic nostalgia for almost two years now. Many players will feel the same way.
But who could the fresh Classic servers appeal to then? Some hardcore vanilla fans were already the first WoW (buy now) Classic too little vanilla. This will certainly not change with all the innovations just listed. No, when it comes to fresh Classic servers, I think Blizzard should have focused on TBC Classic first. Before the launch, there was a larger group of players who would have liked to start on a new realm with like-minded people. On a server where dozens of players have not already prepared for the Outland adventure with twinks, quests and gold. On which the economy starts from scratch and newcomers also have a chance of joining. Perhaps all of this is yet to come, but even then, in my view, it will unfortunately be too late.

World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
