The new content of Phase 4 does WoW Classic really good! Thanks to Zul’Gurub, the new challenges in Silithus, and the Nightmare Dragons, there’s just so much to do in Azeroth right now to while away the time. In addition, the 20-player raid may not be difficult, but that’s why it’s very PUG-friendly and entertaining. Our editor Karsten is looking forward to the coming weeks in Classic.
Looking at the entire life cycle, WoW Classic has reached an important milestone this week and thus a new peak in terms of gaming fun for me. Of course, we owe this highlight to the various innovations of content phase 4: i.e. the 20-player raid Zul’Gurub , the new tasks in the high-level zone Silithus and the four nightmare dragons Taerar, Ysondre, Lethon and Emeriss , who with the content already in the game result in a whimsical mix of activities.
Sure, in theory there was a lot to do in Azeroth even before Phase 4 – especially if you enjoy twinking, want to increase reputation with one of the more complex factions, or if you’re keen on the highest ranks in PvP. For many players, however, everyday life looked like this: On one or two chilled evenings a week, clean the raid instances Onyxia’s Lair, Molten Core and Blackwing Lair and farm a bit in between, twink a bit, play a bit of PvP and, if necessary, the guild help relatives.
Don’t get me wrong: I’ve had a lot of fun with this mixture over the last few weeks and months. My witness is the Mountain of Joy, which hasn’t diminished in recent times despite a few long weekends, of games that have been neglected up until now. But now I can expand these activities, namely every three days with the very entertaining raid Zul’Gurub, in which it is also great to farm solo or in small groups and, thanks to the low level of difficulty, it is also very good for spontaneously assembled PUG groups is feasible. In addition, there are quests and reputation collecting in Silithus, with the summons of the wind stones, as well as the hunt for the nightmare dragons (with now six potential world boss spawns, the chance of catching one with the guild increases).
And best of all: all of these challenges are best tackled with the guild – working together and achieving goals together, the greatest strength of Classic, will be further expanded in Phase 4. This increases the fun of playing, the nights are getting much longer again, the atmosphere in Discord and in the guild chat is great – Classic may still have its rough edges, but in my opinion the overall package wipes the floor with many other online role-playing games on the market.
The future will be exciting, but also more strenuous
As I look ahead to the upcoming WoW Classic content , I have good news and bad news for you guys. First the good news: with the opening of Ahn’Qiraj, the two associated raid instances and Naxxramas, there are still a few highlights waiting for us, which I’m personally really looking forward to and which will certainly be noticeably more difficult than the previous challenges.
Now the bad news: The upcoming content is very time-consuming and will not fit into the existing activities as well as it was the case with phase 4. With the current two raid days, guilds will have to prioritize and eliminate raid instances from the weekly schedule, or increase the number of raid days per week. In addition, farming consumables and gold becomes more important due to the higher level of difficulty, leaving less time for other things.
Again, don’t get me wrong: I’m looking forward to phases 5 and 6, for which I’m already preparing (as far as possible) in a targeted manner. Just saying that I think the current mix of Phase 4 content is more balanced and offers something for every type of player without being overwhelming or a lot of work. I will definitely enjoy the next few weeks in Azeroth, dance at as many weddings as possible and at the same time continue to prepare for my personal ultimate goal: defeating C’Thun and Kel’Thuzad.
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
