Phase 1 of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic is coming to an end and in recent weeks there have been numerous players who have almost only logged in for their raid dates. Unfortunately, we have to disappoint anyone who hopes that phase 2 will change something in the long term.
In the last few days and weeks, have you also had the feeling that there is less and less going on in the outland of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic? At the same time, I see more and more often in the guild discord that other games are currently being played in my filter bubble. And I’ve also used the calm before the phase 2 storm lately to catch up on Greedfall, get bogged down in Humankind and continue the story of Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers.
On the one hand, this is hardly surprising. Burning Crusade may present you with a mountain of work in the first few days and weeks – the leveling phase up to level 70, the reputation grind, the attunements, leveling professions, farming badges and a lot more – but once you have climbed this mountain, there is hardly anything for the character to do apart from the raid instances and a few dailys (at least if you only have limited fun in TBC Classic PvP). Then you either take on a twink, farm gold and stuff for the coming phases or just do something else.
On the other hand, I also find this remarkable when I consider that there is such a “down phase” in WoW (buy now) Classic did not give at all. I logged into Classic every day, if only to get the world buffs for the upcoming raid evening or to farm gold and materials – the enormous consumption of consumables finally had to be managed. And for the rest of the guild, it was also significantly less common for players to log into World of Tanks or Hunt: Showdown instead of Classic.

If we look at the upcoming content of phase 2, there are a lot of reasons to log in more often:
the raid instances Tempest Keep and Serpentshrine Cavern, which will certainly be crisper than Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, and Magtheridon’s Lair.
the new Ogri’la and Sha’tari Skyguard factions, bringing some daily quests and new rewards to Outland.
the quest series for the epic flight form of the druids, which also brings a mount into play with the raven prince that not only druids are keen on.
the lowered entry barrier for PvP and the significantly shorter battlefield queues in combination with the PvP parts from – Season 2.
But despite these innovations, I’m sure that “raid logging” will be even more present in phase 2 than it is currently. The new factions are just a purely optional story, and the rewards available there (apart from the cool riding nether rays) are only conditionally exciting. And yes, the new raid instances will be a whole lot more difficult, but that doesn’t mean that the farm effort for consumables will be many times higher. Wiping is not nearly as expensive in TBC Classic as it was in WoW Classic.
In addition, the most intensive preparation phase of TBC Classic is already behind us. With Solarian, Hydross and Leotheras, phase 2 has the most boss fights in which resistances play an important role. In addition, a whole range of profession recipes come into play with phase 5, which provide us with best-in-slot items. The materials for all these things – apart from the nether vortexes – could already be farmed in the last few weeks and months. Add to that the lengthy Attunement quest lines we had to complete for SSC and TK (and even the Ogri’la).
For phase 3, however, we “only” have to knock out Kael’thas and Lady Vashj in terms of attunements. The shadow protection clothes for the Tier 6 raids are much more complex, but this will be a task for the entire guild anyway, since you need a lot of Heart of Darkness from the Black Temple. There’s really a lot to do, apart from the raid instances – apart from the optional netherwing grind – then only with the last phase, when the island of Quel’Danas and the dungeon terrace of the magisters come into play.
And you know what? I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Because I’m about to be a dad for the second time, want to play into New World and Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker and get a Playstation 5 for Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring in early 2022, and I still want to with my TBC Classic guild send all bosses up to and including Kil’jaeden on the boards. How am I supposed to juggle all this when TBC Classic eats up every free minute? Exactly, it doesn’t work.

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
Burning Crusade has the maximum level in WoW at 70 and brings 2 new playable races (Draenei& Blood Elves). In addition, there is a new continent: The Sheol
The Burning Crusade is the first expansion for the successful MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW) from the developer studio Blizzard. The add-on introduces a new continent called Outland. There are also new races. The Blood Elves for the Horde and the Draenei for the Alliance. The classes Paladin and Shaman are now also playable for both factions. Furthermore, the expansion brings an increase in the level limit from 60 to 70 as well as flying mounts.
World of Warcraft (WoW)
The online role-playing game World of Warcraft (WoW) was released in Europe in 2005 and is an MMO with a subscription payment model. In WoW, players can complete tasks with their characters to improve their hero and meet like-minded players. There are thirteen different races to choose from when selecting a character – six of which belong to only one faction each – as well as eleven classes. In World of Warcraft, players have the opportunity to join the Horde or the Alliance, complete missions and quests with their character in the rich world, and adventure with other heroes in instanced areas for five, ten, and even 25 players.
