WoW Vanilla is well remembered by many players, not least because of the social structures. But can WoW Classic connect to these times? Or did we – the WoW community – just evolve in a different direction? What are your expectations of the WoW Classic community?
Blizzard Entertainment is opening the gates to a new (old) world in less than two weeks. A world before its cataclysmic destruction. In less than two weeks we will finally know if fans of a glorified WoW Classic world (buy now) have fallen victim to nostalgic transfiguration – or whether the basic version of the almost 15-year-old MMORPG will actually (again) be the measure of all things.
The WoW retail issues
Battle for Azeroth – that’s the name of the current WoW expansion – source of all wrong decisions. At least that’s the style of the vocal community. To name a few of Azeroth’s construction sites: the inhomogeneous leveling phase , the repetitive reputation grind , the incomplete character progression and the extremely rapid depreciation of existing equipment – all of these are quite valid points.
But according to Redditor ex0ll , nothing will change in what is probably the most important factor in an MMORPG, the community. Because it is precisely those people who are upset about WoW Retail and so excited about Classic that make Retail what it is today: ” We all point the finger at this imaginary culprit (either Blizzard or other players) . But that ultimately stops us from becoming friends, and it makes the game what it is today: it’s more about the gear and the DPS/HPS numbers. “
Is the mirror held up to us?
Of course, we’re inclined to believe that WoW Classic will only bring out the best in players. But is that true? Well, at least we can provide counter-evidence from the classic beta and thus, at least until the official publication, refute the Redditor’s criticism.
YouTuber Tiremo recently published a video that revealed the extremely respectful interaction between the Classic players. A queue formed in front of the quest opponent Sarkoth , which allowed each player to complete his quest in peace as soon as it was his turn. This allowed the players to practice discipline, but also to treat each other with respect.

What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
