On the one hand, this is positive, because we have a lot to do on Outland. On the other hand, wrong decisions can quickly lead to frustration. In this special, we’ll tell you which mistakes you should avoid in TBC Classic.
TBC Classic: Choose the right class for your main character
The pre-patch of Burning Crusade Classic will change a lot of classes and specializations. Especially the different hybrid play styles will benefit from the adjustments and new talents, but also the specialists will see some changes. Many players will use this moment to change the main character. However, the choice of class as well as specialization needs to be considered carefully.
Especially at the beginning of Burning Crusade Classic, it will take a lot of time to bring your character to level 70, to increase your reputation with all the important factions and to get access to Karazhan. If you realize afterwards that your main character choice was not really optimal, you have the … Sorry for the choice of words … ass card. Because then you can start all this (leveling, reputation farming, mastering attunements) again.

Every player has to make an important decision in Outland: Will you join the Aldor or the Seer in Shattrath? Your answer will influence all sorts of factors, which we have already summarized for you in the following guide:

Why does this point appear here? Well, if you make the wrong choice with Archmage Khadgar and want to undo it, be prepared for a very long and tedious grind. For both factions you can find an NPC in the lower quarter of Shattrath, where you can do a repeatable quest up to the reputation level Neutral. You can earn 250 reputation for eight eyes of a Haze Scale Basilisk (Call Quest for the Seers: Voren’thal’s Visions with Arcanist Adyria) or eight Dread Poison Pouches (Call Quest for the Aldor: Dwindling Supplies with Sha’nir). You can farm them in the forests of Terokkar. The drop chances of the items are unfortunately… let’s say: manageable. So it’s best to avoid depending on these quests.
TBC Classic: Think carefully about which profession suits your playing style!
As important as the professions are in WoW (buy now ) Classic, they will become even more important when Blizzard revives the era of The Burning Crusade. The reason: the crafting trades provide you with exclusive bonuses and goods that have a noticeable effect on your performance in dungeons, raids, as well as in PvP (and that you can’t get via the promotion house or trade directly).
In other words, player X who has chosen the wrong professions for his class will always perform worse than player Y with the optimal professions. It is not only a factor which class you have, but also which specialization you play and if you want to play more in PvP or PvE.
Let’s just take the warrior as an example. If you’re a weapon warrior with a PvE focus, you’ll want to master Blacksmithing, including the Sword specialization, because that will give you access to the powerful Lionheart Daggerblade, which can be upgraded over time. If you’re interested in PvP, however, mace specialization is more useful. Keyword: Messenger of the Storm. Furor Warriors also tend to use the Mace, but then with the one-handed Dragon Strike variant.

TBC Classic: Watch out for quest rewards
A number of quests await you in Outland, rewarding you with rare pieces of equipment. Your first impulse will probably be to grab the item that gives you the most for your current level specialization. However, if you’re unlucky, you’ll miss out on an item that would have been optimal for your first visit to Karazhan, where you have a healing or tanking role.
Here are some examples from Hellfire Peninsula:
- Overlord: Rewards you with Retribution of the Illidari, Royal Guard, or Knife Fists Breadth.
- Lost in Action: Reward yourself with Cenarian Ring of Spellcasting, Gold Tendril Wrap, or Dark Cloak of the Marshes.

TBC Classic: Start asap with Karazhan-Pre and Co.
Already during the leveling phase on Outland you can and should tackle some important milestones that are important for the endgame. First and foremost, this includes the Karazhan pre-quest series, which you can prepare in the Caverns of Time starting at level 66 and start at level 68.
Especially the quest where the Preserver of Time leads you through the caves for minutes, you want to get through as quickly as possible – especially on PvP servers. Also, you’ll be doing double and triple the work if, for example, you don’t start the Karazhan quest until you’re 70 and then you’re sent back into the dungeons you’ve visited countless times.

TBC Classic: Visit Dungeons for Reputation Grind to Benevolent
As you know, there are countless factions in Outland where you can increase your reputation. Not only will you unlock new armor, weapons, and recipes from each faction’s merchants, but you can also buy the key to the heroic versions of the dungeons associated with each faction on Respectful.
You have two main options for gaining reputation: Mastering quests from the respective faction or farming normal dungeons. The crux of the matter is that the enemies in most normal dungeons will only give you reputation points up to Benevolent. If you’ve already completed all available quests, you’ll have to farm the one dungeon that still gives you reputation from Benevolent on (in Thrallmar/Honor Feast, for example, the Shattered Halls), or master any available Daily quests. This takes time.
You can farm reputation much more efficiently if you farm only the respective dungeons until Benevolent and then work through the quests of the respective faction. This should be a reasonable approach, considering how many players will be on Outland after launch. Chilling quests in the open world might be difficult in the first time.
TBC Classic: Save your gold for Outland now
We already told you how you can farm gold in WoW Classic Phase 6. After all, some cost-intensive weeks and months are waiting for you after the launch: the fast flying wants to be paid just as much as the construction of your crafting products or the 22-place bags of Haris Pilton.
However, in order for you to bring as much gold as possible to Outland, it is also important to avoid unnecessary expenses now. Example: If you haven’t bought all the bank slots with some characters yet, wait until the TBC launch to do so! In TBC Classic, the last bank slots cost 25 gold each (instead of 50 and 100 gold).
Also confirmed by beta testers: The new training for fast riding costs 540 gold after the launch, for a fast mount you pay 90 gold. In total, you will have to pay 630 gold. This is significantly less than currently in WoW Classic (1,000 gold minus reputation and PvP rank 3 discount)).
TBC Classic: Avoid frustration with the arena quest series
One of the important milestones during the leveling phase is the Arena quest series in Nagrand. This is designed for groups of players and sets several “boss fights” for you to master. Each battle has its own quest, but you can only accept it if you have completed the previous one.

Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access to WoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
