we’ll finally be able to take to the battlefield of Warsong Gulch in WoW Classic and take on the opposing faction in flag combat. Since a lot has changed in World of Warcraft over the past 15 years, we’ll tell you how the battlefield will play in Classic WoW.
The honor system has been active in WoW Classic for some time now, but many players enjoy the hunt for honorable victories, especially in the instanced battlegrounds. The good news, which has been known for a while, is that starting December 11, 2019, we will be able to sign up for the first two battlegrounds in WoW history: Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley.
Since a lot has changed in World of Warcraft in the last 15 years (buy now), in this article we’ll tell you how the Warsong Gulch Battleground will play in Classic WoW, how to sign up, and what rewards await you.
The rules of Warsong Gulch
At first glance, nothing has changed in the basic system of Warsong Gulch: In WoW Classic, too, two teams of ten players each fight against each other: whoever brings three enemy flags into their own flag room first and defends their own flag at the same time wins the battlefield. The differences are in the details:
The design/layout is slightly different.
In Warsong Gulch, there is no maximum duration for a game. The game ends only when a team has captured three flags.
When you collect a buff on the battlefield, the effect appears as a debuff and cannot be removed manually. This can be dangerous if you collect Berserk, as you will take ten percent more damage and the enemy will take you under fire. The other two buff spells are Speed and Recovery.
The debuff Focused Attack for the flag bearer does not exist in WoW Classic.
These changes combined mean that battles in Warsong Gulch can last a long time – especially if a well-equipped tank or druid is leading the flag and is properly supported by their team.
How to sign up for Warsong Gulch
In WoW Classic, there is still no automatic matchmaking that allows you to queue up for a battleground from anywhere in the world. Instead, you’ll have to go to the battlemasters in your faction’s capitals and talk to them. (Alternatively, you can go to the entrance of Warsong Gulch in the Barrens (Horde) or Ashenvale (Alliance) and sign up there.)

Level requirements and brackets for Warsong Gulch
Once your character reaches level 10, you can queue up with the Battlemasters for a round of Warsong Gulch. You will end up in a bracket equal to your level:
Bracket 1: Level 10 to 19
Bracket 2: Level 20 to 29
Bracket 3: Level 30 to 39
Bracket 4: Level 40 to 49
Bracket 5: Level 50 to 59
Bracket 6: Level 60
Warsong Gulch Rewards
First and foremost, of course, playing Warsong Gulch will earn you Honor Points, which will count towards the weekly stats and allow you to climb the ranks ladder (and unlock new rewards). Warsong Gulch also has its own vendor where you can purchase rewards based on your reputation with the Warsong Gulch faction.

Note: Since each faction has its own dealer, there are corresponding, comparably good counterparts for the other faction for some of the items in the following list. In addition, the dealers sell better versions of some items (e.g. rations and bandages, but also some armor and weapons), depending on your character level. Basically, however, it should be clear which items you can buy from the PvP dealers.
Farm reputation for Warsong Gulch
Warsong Gulch Marks of Honor are awarded for your games in Warsong Gulch . There are three badges of honor for a win and one badge of honor for a loss. You can redeem these in a pack of three to receive reputation points, honor points and even experience depending on your character level:
From level 10 to 19: 50 reputation with your Warsong Gulch faction, 50 honor, 725 experience.
From level 20 to 29: 50 reputation with your Warsong Gulch faction, 82 honor, 1,200 experience.
From level 30 to 39: 50 reputation with your Warsong Gulch faction, 138 honor, 1,500 experience.
From level 40 to 49: 50 reputation with your Warsong Gulch faction, 228 honor, 2,250 experience.
From level 50 to 59: 50 reputation with your Warsong Gulch faction, 378 honor, 3,200 experience.
At level 60: 50 reputation with your Warsong Gulch faction, 398 honor.
Once Arathi Basin is also available, you can exchange tokens from all Battlegrounds to complete the Great Honor quest , which rewards you with 2,388 Honor and 100 reputation with all Battleground factions. Finally, you and your team will gain 35 reputation (45 reputation if the appropriate BG weekend is running) for successfully capturing and relinquishing an opponent’s flag.
Honor farming in Warsong Gulch
You’ve already read it above: Turning in the badges of honor not only gives you reputation, but also honor. Anyone who regularly visits the Warsong Gulch during the level phase and wants to rise in the ranking system should hold back up to 20 badges of honor in order to only exchange them at level 60 (you cannot have more than 20 badges.) This way, maximum honor beckons.
But there is also honor for the fights themselves: You and your team receive 398 honor every time you successfully capture and surrender an opponent’s flag. Victory brings you 1,392 honor at level 60 – with the three flag captures. Then of course there is also the kill gauge for defeated characters. On the other hand, if you lose the game, there is only the honor for kills and capturing the flag. You can get even more honor on special Warsong Gulch weekends – a total of 2,376 honor plus kill honor are in there per win. The losing team still gets 594 bonus honor during the event.
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
