Chief Petty Officer Joseph Bowman was a SOG member and has only appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops. He was a comrade of Alex Mason and Frank Woods and appeared in almost every mission until the mission “Payday” when he dies. He was dubbed by the famous U.S. rapper Ice Cube.
Biography
Not much is known about him, but it is known that he was born on November 10, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was a World War II veteran. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17.
Operation 40
In the mission “Operation 40” he fought with Alex Mason and Frank Woods in Cuba. The first place you get to see him is in the bar, where you have to escape from the police with him and Frank Woods. After they carry out the assassination of the double of Fidel Castro, he, and Frank Woods escape through a plane, but without Alex Mason.
Baikonur
Years later, Joseph Bowman worked with Alex Mason and Frank Woods again. This time the mission was to destroy a missile in Russia, thus preventing its launch.
Vietnam
In 1968, Bowman was on a deposition in the SOG. This time he reunited with Alex Mason and Frank Woods and supported them in the Tet Offensive in Hue City. Their mission was to investigate a crashed aircraft, but there they found nothing but a map and a couple of China Lake grenade launchers. But suddenly Spetsnaz appeared in front of the plane, and attacked Alex Mason, Frank Woods and Joseph Bowman. The three were unlucky, however, and could not defend the plane. As a result, they were arrested
Bowman’s death
Bowman, Alex and Frank were detained for about a week. In the process, Joseph Bowman was forced to play Russian roulette with Alex Mason. Joseph Bowman did not want to, however, and was therefore brutally killed with a pipe by a Russian. Alex Mason and Frank Woods managed to escape, however, and took revenge on the Russian.

• His face strongly resembles his spokesman Ice Cube.
• Throughout the Black Ops campaign, Bowman is the only African American soldier.
• In the mission “Victor Charlie” when Alex Mason, Frank Woods and Bowman meet for the first time, after a closer look you can see that he has rather white hands.
• In older trailers you can see that Joseph Bowman looked paler.
• Like Frank Woods, he also doesn’t seem to like Jason Hudson and Grigori Weaver very much.
• Joseph Bowman can speak several languages, including Russian and Vietnamese.
• Joseph Bowman is the only chief petty officer in the game.
• Joseph Bowman’s dead body cannot be seen on the XBOX 360 and Wii version after the assassination.
