If you’ve played Valorant lately, you’ve probably noticed that Run and Gun is still a thing. Riot already made some changes earlier this year, and Valorant Episode 3 will finally bury the issue. Hopefully.
Valorant is most often compared to CS:GO. While the latter rewards you for precise movement and high accuracy, Valorant still has a run & gun problem. Needless to say, a large portion of the player base isn’t happy with it. It was especially bad a year ago when Riot’s shooter was freshly released, as even weapons other than SMGs were unexpectedly accurate in motion. Riot Games generated the run-and-gun gameplay style at the beginning of 2021, but it wasn’t enough. Now, just before Valorant Episode 3 Act 1, the developers are planning even more changes that will put an end to Run & Gun.
Riot nerfs Run & Gun in Valorant Episode 3
Valorant is now a year old, and over the past twelve months Riot Games has shown that they definitely listen to player feedback. So it’s a little confusing that Run & Gun still exists. Valorant designers Max Grossman and Sal Garozzo discussed the issue:
“Tag into accuracy is our internal name for a phenomenon where a completely running player starts shooting at you without slowing down; then you shoot and hit him, applying the tagging weakening effect and slowing him down. While we believe there are certain situations where Run & Gun should be powerful, it is currently more powerful than we would like.
The devs won’t completely remove movement accuracy, but with Episode 3, even walking players will suffer a major disadvantage when aiming.
Shooting while walking in VALORANT was previously quite accurate and allowed players to make reasonably accurate shots even at medium distances. With the changes to run accuracy, walking shooting will be significantly less effective at medium ranges, rewarding players who proactively stop before shooting.
Run and Gun is definitely getting a serious nerf in the upcoming Episode 3. It will probably take players some time to get used to the changes, but we believe it’s all for the better. After all, Valorant is a tactical shooter that wants to compete with CS:GO. What do you guys have to say about this? Should Run and Gun be removed from Valorant entirely? What is Valorant?
Valorant initially appears to be a cross between CS:Go and Overwatch . A competitive shooter where two small teams compete against each other.
Your team is either ready to attack or defend, with the attackers placing a “stinger” (essentially a bomb) that the other team must then defuse or preferably prevent you from placing at all.
The attacking team can win by either eliminating the defenders or placing the stinger and then protecting it from defusing until the timer runs out. The defenders can similarly win by destroying the attackers before they have a chance to plant their stinger, or disarming the stinger after it has been planted.
Each team of five can play as both attackers and defenders during a game. Each game has a total of 25 rounds, with the first team to win 13 rounds declared the winner
