Valorant’s patch 3.00 introduced a lot of changes to Riot’s shooter, including the ranking system. Players had to go through a hard rank reset, but what really changed after that? Here is the rank distribution for Episode 3 Act 1.
Valorant’s ranking system doesn’t have many fans, and for good reason. In early 2021, Riot removed stacks of 5 from Valorant, earning harsh criticism. Professional players and streamers agree that the game is simply not an enjoyable experience at the highest ranks. After months of feedback, Riot finally decided to do the rank system justice with patch 3.00. Did that fix everything? Today we take a look at the ranking distribution and how it has changed.
Valorant Patch 3.00 Ranking Changes.
In addition to the new agent KAY/O and the various price adjustments, Valorant’s 3.00 patch also hard reset the ranking system. What did this mean? Everyone had to play a few placement games to get their new rank in Valorant after patch 3.00. In addition, the highest placement rank was adjusted from Platinum 3 to Diamond 1.
For Episode 3, our main focus for Ranked is matchmaking accuracy and fairness. We evaluated our system and made some important changes that should improve these key areas for a wide range of players.

Rank distribution before and after patch 3.00
Here’s a quick comparison between the ranks. At the end of Episode 2 Act 3, they were distributed as follows:
- Iron: 17.8%
- Bronze: 29.2%
- Silver: 26.6%
- Gold: 15.8%
- Platinum: 6.5%
- Diamond: 2.9%
- Immortal: 1.2%
- Radiant: 0.1%
Once patch 3.00 was released, players had to play some placement games to get their new rank. According to Valking.gg, the current distribution in Episode 3 Act 1 is as follows.
- Iron: 13.9%
- Bronze: 28.0%
- Silver: 35.3%
- Gold: 13.0%
- Platinum: 5.9%
- Diamond: 3.2%
- Immortal: 0.6%
- Radiant: 0.1%
There is a decrease in Platinum and an increase in Diamond due to the new placement system. Immortal players have dropped from 1.2% to 0.6%, while Radiant remains at 0.1%. The biggest difference seems to be on Silver rank, where we see an increase of almost 10%. With 35.3% of players in the Silver rank, more than a third of the player base is in a single rank group. I wonder if this is good for the long-term development of the game?

What is Valorant?
Valorant initially appears to be a cross between CS:Go and Overwatch . A competitive shooter where two small teams compete against each other.
Your team is either ready to attack or defend, with the attackers placing a “stinger” (essentially a bomb) that the other team must then defuse or preferably prevent you from placing at all.
The attacking team can win by either eliminating the defenders or placing the stinger and then protecting it from defusing until the timer runs out. The defenders can similarly win by destroying the attackers before they have a chance to plant their stinger, or disarming the stinger after it has been planted.
Each team of five can play as both attackers and defenders during a game. Each game has a total of 25 rounds, with the first team to win 13 rounds declared the winner
